Keep your conscious mind busy with the expectation of the best – Joseph Murphy

Not all the self-help books you come across are the same. Rather they are completely different from
one another and have a different impact on the reader.

There are only few books which are actually effective in a positive way. ‘The Power of a Subconscious
Mind’ is one such book.

It is Joseph Murphy’s greatest creation which has conquered the minds of many readers. This is not
only a book rather it is a powerful influencer.

The book is one of few exceptions, likely because of two factors. First, the author, Joseph Murphy,
was a popular minister of the Church of Divine Science and second, because his book took root in
both science and religion.

Other Joseph Murphy Books are

 This Is It or the Art of Metaphysical Demonstration (1945)

 Wheels of Truth (1946)
 The Perfect Answer (1946)

That’s why this how-to guide for manipulating your own behavior to get what you want has sold
millions of copies and remains popular to this day.

Our mind is made up of two parts in a nutshell. The first is conscious and another is sub-conscious.
The conscious part of the mind deals with the present state of mind. In easier words, it is a mind you
use when you are awake and aware of your thinking.

The subconscious part of mind works when we are asleep. It also works in a situation when you wish
to recall something for a longer period of time.

According to Dr. Murphy subconscious mind is a dark room in which we develop images that live in
real life.

The conscious mind captures the images from daily lives and remembers it. The subconscious mind
works backwards i.e. seeing something before it happens.

Also, the author states that the subconscious mind works as “The master secret of the ages”.

 The Power which we are looking outside is living inside us, the treasure house is inside you.
 If you want something very badly then you have to have a firm believe that one day that thing going
to happen in your life.
 We should feed wisely to our subconscious mind because there is a strong linkage between
subconscious and conscious mind. Whatever you think the impression goes to our subjective mind.
 We should always fill our mind with word of affirmations.
 We should learn to forgive ourselves first then others because god never punishes anyone, its our
thought which punishes us.
 Our Future is in our subconscious mind.
Here are 3 lessons to help you tap into the unconscious part of your mind:

1. Use visualization as a way to exploit the placebo effect in your favor.

2. If you can’t decide between several options, give yourself a night to sleep over it.
3. Make a sincere effort to wish well for others, because envy only gets in your own way.

Lesson 1: Visualization is a means to use the placebo effect to your advantage.

The central point of the book is that you can use your imagination to suggest ideas to your
subconscious to get what you want. If repeated often enough, your mind will then steer your behavior
more towards making those ideas a reality, unbeknownst to you. The scientific idea this plays on is
called the placebo effect. In medicine, a placebo is a pill without a real, chemical or biological
consequence, usually made of sugar. But if patients believe they’re getting strong medication, they
might still observe some of the benefits, solely based on this belief. Book describes many examples
like an opera singer, who used this technique to overcome his stage fright. Another one is a surgeon
in the 1900s, which lowered the mortality rate of his patients by telling them they wouldn’t get an
infection. There are also many modern-day examples, like actor Jim Carry, who used visualize to
succeed as an actor.

Lesson 2: When in doubt, sleep on it. Often, you can make more confident decisions after a good night’s
rest.
Another way you can make use of your subconscious is to simply sleep on things when you have a
tough time deciding.

Murphy’s example is a woman, who was offered a job at the opposite coast of the country. It paid
twice her current salary, but she was unsure whether to move across the nation for it. As she
meditated in the evening, she fell asleep. In the morning, her gut confirmed her initial doubts and she
decided not to take the offer. A few months later, she found out the company had gone bankrupt.

Your subconscious can process information quicker and in different ways than your
conscious self. Therefore, letting it do its thing while you sleep can lead to clearer thoughts and a
more confident opinion the next day.

Lesson 3: Wish others well, for envy will only prevent you from getting what you want.
While your subconscious can be very useful if steered in the right direction, it can also make you get
in your own way.

Murphy shares the story of a salesman, who never seemed to receive any recognition at work.
Despite outperforming all of his colleagues, he didn’t rise in the ranks. As it turned out, he suspected
his boss to not like him. Therefore, he subconsciously behaved in somewhat hostile ways himself.
Once he changed his own attitude, wishing genuine success for his boss, he soon received a
promotion.

if you secretly hate others for having something you want, you’ll make it less likely for yourself
to attain that thing.

So don’t fall into a victim mindset. The pie isn’t limited. There’s enough to go around for
everyone. Stay positive and root for others, so that the universe may root for you.

 This could be a life changing book. It explained the concept through real time examples which
has happened with authors followers. It consists of 20 chapters, in each chapter he has given
one prayer to be repeated before sleep if you have so and so desires. It explains how outer
world is created by our inner world only. The book says our subconscious mind is extremely
sensitive towards our conscious mind. So immediately correct your negative sentences into
the positive one.

Each chapter is very relatable with our lives and as you move towards the end, all the questions have
been answered in this book. What is subconscious mind ? How to achieve the power ? How to have
happy and peaceful life ? Why should we forgive everyone ? You will get answers to all these
questions in this book.
Everyone can follow these simple techniques, but it takes time to implement them. I practiced and
implemented it on my own. Yes, I can say is I have seen so much better in my lifestyle in a short
period.

Also, I want other readers too to get this experience so that even they can get wisdom and lead a
quality life. Do give this book a read.
