A reflection/journal entry that highlights the application of a learner-centered teaching philosophy in
the lesson plan or community work.
Teaching is a passion. If you don’t have that passion, you are in the wrong field. Being a teacher is not
easy. There is a lot of pressure and demands coming from students, parents, and school officials which
can be overwhelming. But when a teacher has that wholesome desire to teach, it can overcome all the
other baggage that comes with the profession. Teaching is not only a career but a tool to help others
succeed. Its very essence is what pushes a teacher to go above and beyond the expectations of an
educator. That passionate teacher is the type of teacher I am. Education doesn’t end when a certain
concept, idea, ortopic is taught but it’s an ongoing process in which students are consistently building
upon. As a teacher, it needs to be understood that not all students learn equally. Some students learn at
a different pace and different formats of lesson have different effects on students; some lessons might
spark something in the student that other lessons might not. As a teacher, it’s important to find creative
ways to engage students and challenge them so that continue to pursue an education systematically. It
should become part of their lives and to a certain degree, their identity because education never ends
Education is privileged and a life-long process. Not everyone are privileged enough to attend formal
schools that is why we, as a teacher and second parent to our students always value their day-to-day
effort to attend their class. It is challenging to be a teacher. It can be difficult to handle the pressure and
demands that students, parents, stakeholders, and school administrators place on us. However, all the
other burdens that come with the job may be surmounted when a teacher has that genuine passion to
teach. Teaching is a career and a means of assisting others in succeeding.
It is important for teachers to recognize that not all students learn in the same way. varied lesson
strategies and styles have varied effects on students, and some classes may spark something in them
that other lessons might not. Different students learn at different rates. In order for students to pursue
their education, it is crucial for teachers to come up with innovative ways to challenge and engage them.
Because education never stops, it should become a part of their lives and, to some extent, their
identities.
What qualities distinguish a good teacher? The teaching philosophy is the most important element. It
has an important impact on the teaching career since it affects what and how the teacher will teach.
The focus of instruction should be on each student's capacities, capabilities, requirements, and
personality. Everyone has a unique learning style. Thus, not every student will benefit from traditional
instructional methods. Differentiated instruction should be provided according to each student's needs.
Additionally, the classroom should be somewhat conducive. As a result, the teacher was able to give
each student in the classroom adequate attention.
Contrary to the traditional view of teaching and learning, where the student was viewed as a blank slate
ready to be filled with knowledge, the usage of different learning styles to students to actively engage
with the world around them through experiments and problem-solving in the real world. Making
connections between prior knowledge, past knowledge, and the entire learning process from material
obtained either actively or passively is necessary for learners to comprehend.
Learning is actively produced, and that people acquire knowledge by adding to and expanding upon
already existing knowledge. The basis for freshly acquired experiences is this prior knowledge. It rejects
the notion that information may be acquired intrinsically or passively.
Students, with the help of their teachers can continuously create their mental perceptions of the real
world. Knowledge only exists in the mind and has no place in the physical world. Students constantly
alter their mental perspectives to reflect new information, which leads them to create their own
understanding of reality.
A teacher who values students' participation will uphold a good takeaways to students. Regardless of
the differences and barriers students have, they will grow with the proper guidance and teaching of an
competent teachers.
First Quarter
During the first quarter of this school year, we conducted blended learning. Where students went to
school for 3 days and 2 days for distance learning or modular. During this kind of set up, teaching was
full blast. We always give all the information needed so that our students will acquire new and more
knowledge regardless the situation we are into. Student centeredness was also observe by providing all
the necessary outputs and materials to the students.
Second Quarter
Students succeed when what they’re learning matters to them. In student-centered learning, students’
interest drives education. Student-centered learning gives students the opportunity to decide two
things: what material they learn and how they learn it. Several performances were conducted such as
speeches, narration and story telling. Students plan their own assignment, propose a solution,
communicate their ideas to teachers and classmates, and evaluate their own progress as they go.
Teachers help guide this process, but the content, timing, and motivation is down to students
themselves.
Third Quarter
To increase motivation, we motivate students to assume responsibility for their learning, and build close
relationships, we can use student-centered learning in their classes. Third-quarter lessons about various
social issues learned from various text genres helped students to understand the value of education.
They were given a variety of Afro-Asian tales and literary works to grasp various life circumstances.
Cohesive Devices to use in firm-speaking and proper understanding of different text types.
Fourth Quarter
In this quarter, learners-centered was still observe. Teacher discussed different Grammatical signals and
let her students construct their own statement or sentence. By this doing, the students can analyze each
signal and brainstorm some of its synonyms. When students take ownership of their education, they
develop into explorers who can use their natural curiosity to find solutions to issues in the real world.
Student-centered learning moves students from passive receivers of information to active participants in
their own discovery process that is why teacher let her students solve different text problem and let
them conduct their own research and reading .
