The Effects of Technology
If you look at the world just 150 years ago, it would be totally different than the world we
live in now. Riding carriages turned into driving cars. Writing letters turned into sending emails.
Piles of paperwork turned into online shared drives. The world has totally changed and become
more accessible. Why? Because of technology. As technology advances throughout the years, it
also affects other fields and helped them grow. Even in the present, technology plays a huge role
in changing the world for the better. Fiona Clair states, “Unfortunately, I don't think this culture
is going to stray from its technological ways any time soon. In fact, technology is just going to
continually become more and more integrated into every aspect of our lives,” (Clair, par. 6).
Technology is one of the biggest contributors in shaping the world and it has impacted
transportation, communication, and work efficiency and continues to influence these areas.
Throughout history, technology shaped transportation and this continues even in the
present. Transportation in the past consisted of horses, boats, and walking. It would take months
to get from one country to another. Technology was used to make engines, which led to the
creation of cars, trains, buses, ships, and even planes. These automobiles allowed people to go
from one place to another without it taking weeks or even months. In the present, a new
advancement would be the making of self-driving cars. AI was first created in the 1950s by
computer scientists. Since then, it has been used in multiple different fields. It is most commonly
known to be used in transportation. With the idea of a fully automated car, developers

incorporated AI into programs to help bring this idea to life. Tesla was the first company to
release self-driving cars which helped make driving more accessible. There will be a point in
time where cars can be controlled by voice, helping the blind and other handicapped people
drive. Although self-driving cars are a work in progress, they will greatly help a large part of the
population. Technology had a great impact in changing transportation and will continue to do so.
Technology helped change communication for the better, in just a few seconds people can
communicate with other people across the world. When people want to communicate with
someone, what do they do? They either grab their laptop or phone. There are multiple ways to
contact people which were all created by using technology. In the past if people wanted to
communicate, they would have to travel or write letters. After the creation of the phone,
computer, and fax machine, communicating became faster. Although it still took some time to
communicate by these means, it eliminated the need to travel and wait weeks to receive letters.
With the creation of the internet and smart phones in the following years, communicating has
become even easier. Phone and video calls could be made in an instant. Another big
advancement in communication was social media. Developers made platforms as another way to
communicate, which is accessible from any device that would connect to the internet.
Communication has come a long way from carrier pigeons to emerging social media platforms
such as Threads with the use of technology.
With the creation of new technology, such as analytics and artificial intelligence, work
has become a lot easier and faster. Before the creation of analytics, people would have to go
through every document or piece of data and sort it. Now, all people have to do is use an analytic
tool to automatically sort everything and find what they need in an instant. Sorting, which would
usually take a week or two, is now done in seconds. An example of a tool like this would be
Pranto 3
Knime. It is used by people in the computer science field. Knime automatically reads a file and
lets people do multiple different actions within seconds. A lot of different electronics have AI
incorporated in them including drones, robots, and machines. Drones serve a lot of different
purposes. They deliver parcels as well as blood from one hospital to another in a case of an
emergency. People in the entertainment field also use drones to help shoot scenes without having
to take time to suspend a person or set up a camera at different angles. In architecture, drones can
be used to get a bird’s eye view of an area in an instant to plan the build. Robots also make work
efficiency better. In restaurants, robots are seen serving food to tables to lower wait time for
customers. As robots are getting developed further, they will be able to do things that is hard for
humans in the near future. Most companies use assembly lines and machines to do most of the
work, saving time as well as preventing human error to produce products in the best condition
they can. By using technology, a bunch of time and effort has been saved which increases work
efficiency.
In conclusion, technology has impacted a lot of different areas of life. It has made things
faster, easier, as well as more accessible. The making of self-driving cars, development of social
media, as well as the making of tools and programs are all advancements made because of
technology. Although the world has already changed in drastic ways, there is still more room to
evolve. Throughout history, transportation, communication, and work efficiency are some areas
that have evolved, but it doesn’t stop here. Technology has made the unthinkable a reality. In the
future, the things people dream of today will become true, even if it doesn’t seem possible. The
main reason as to why the world has come so far and it will continue to be so in the future is all
because of technology.
