1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND

Our Client, Makanan hasil laut megah sdn. Bhd. has planned to develop the 0.2 acre above
land into 4 units terrace factories.

The site involved is on Lot 163, Jalan Bidara 1, Mukim Batu Caves, Daerah Selayang,
Selangor Darul Ehsan.

The project will be constructed with 4 units terrace factories for light industries usage.

1.2 PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Following are the list of building components on this project lot:-

 4 units terrace factory – 2 storey
2.0 DEVELOPMENT PLANNING

2.1 OBJECTIVE OF PLANNING

To plan a stormwater drainage discharge from the above development into the existing
stream according to the new Urban Stormwater Management Manual Malaysia published
by the Development of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia, Volume 2.

To select a suitable drainage network system so that the peak flow after development is
equal or less than the pre-development peak flow for both minor and major system. In the
mean time stormwater is contained and the quality of strormwater can be controlled. Thus
reducing any flooding problem and improving water quality of the surrounding area.

The design of the drainage system shall be in accordance to the requirements of Jabatan
Pengairan dan Saliran (JPS), Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) and Local Authorities.

2.2 PLANNING OF THE DEVELOPMENT

The construction of drainage system discharged to existing drain and will commence
immediately after all the necessary approvals are obtained.

2.3 SCOPE OF WORKS

The works will consist of :-

i. R.C drains at around the land and sides of the road.

ii. Drain as detention pond.

3.0 DESIGN OF STORMWATER DRAINAGE SYSTEM

3.1 DRAINS
R.C drains shall be designed to collect and convey all the stormwater from each of the
buildings and surrounding areas to the existing road side main drains before discharged
into the major stormwater system.
3.2 DESIGN FLOW
Capacities of the drains are calculated with the estimated rainfall at the respective
coverage areas. They also governed by the terrain of the surrounding areas. The drains
shall be capable of channeling all stromwater into the existing main drains within the
allowable velocities indicated by the manual. Minor system shall be designed to a 2 years
ARI and 50 years ARI for the major system. In other words, all drains are designed to 2
years ARI storm and checked for a 50 years ARI storm.

With an efficient channeling system of stormwater, all buildings shall be free from flood
and other hazardous encounters during rain pours.

3.3 SUMP
All sumps shall be constructed in horizontal alignments and at junctions between two or
more drains. The bases of sumps shall be at an invert level 50mm below the lowest invert
level of the discharge point, to serve as silt trap for sediment particles in the channels.

Reference Calculation Output

Figure 5.A1 Selayang falls under Region 1 - West Coast

Project Area = 0.2 acres (0.081 ha)
Terrain - Mild
% of Impervious Area = 90%

Table 5.A1 Permissible Site Discharge (PSD)/ha: = 79.10 l/s/ha

For area of 0.081 ha, PSD = 0.081 x 79.10 = 6.4071 l/s

= 0.0064 m3 /s

Table 5.A1 Site Storage Requirements (SSR)/ha: = 504.7 m3/ ha

For area of 2.01 ha, SSR = 2.01 x 504.7 = 40.8807 m3

Table 5.A2 Inlet Flow / ha: = 180.0 1/s/ha

For area of 0.081 ha, PSD = 0.081 x 180.0 = 14.58 l/s

= 0.01458 m3/s

Table 5.A2 PSD/ha: = 41.1 /s/ha

For area of 0.081 ha, PSD = 0.081 x 41.10 = 3.3291 l/s

= 0.0033291 m3/s

Table 5.A2 SSR/ha: = 398.60 m3/ha

For area of 0.081 ha, PSD = 0.081 x 398.60 = 32.2866 m3

Smaller PSD value is adopted for subsequent sizing of

outlet pipe.
Thus, PSD = 0.004 m3/s = 0.0033291 m3/s

Table 5.A3 Inlet Pipe : Adopt 225 mm dia = 250mm dia

Table 5.A3 Outlet Pipe : Adopt 220mm dia = 150mm dia

Table 5.A4 Inlet Pipe : with inlet flow of = 0.01458 m3/s
Therefore; = 325 mm

Table 5.A4 Outlet Pipe : with PSD of = 0.0033291 m3/s

Therefore; = 250 mm

Design Value Selected;

PSD = 0.0033291 m3/s

SSR = 40.8807 m3

Drain Detention Size:

41m x 1.0m x 1.0m(d) = 41 m3
OK

Inlet Pipe
(Select smaller) = 325 mm

Outlet Pipe
(Select smaller) = 200 mm
