This document provides instructions for creating a model of the Earth's layers to be used as an instructional material for elementary students. It describes how to make circles of varying radii in Styrofoam to represent the crust, mantle, outer core and inner core. The circles are sanded and covered with tissue and paint to distinguish the different layers. Labelled parts can then be assembled to demonstrate the basic structure of the Earth. The model is intended to be used in a lesson identifying and describing the Earth's layers to elementary students through a video, model observation, flashcards and a short quiz.

Activity 1 - Model Sample of the Earth's Basic Structure to be used as an Instructional Material in
Elementary Pupils

Model of the Layers of the Earth

Materials

• Flat square Styrofoam • Tissue

• Paper Magazine • Acrylic
Color • Cutter
• Glue
• Sandpaper
• Scissors • Brush
•compass
•plastic cup

Procedure

• First draw 4 circles in the styrofoam using the compass with a radius of 4. • In the
the same procedure draw another circle measuring the following radius of - 3.5 (For
Mantle)

- 1.5 (For outercore)

- 1.25 (For innercore) • Glued

the 4 circles with the radius of 4, let it dry and start forming it into a semi-circle using the cutter.
•Using the sandpaper start sanding the semi-circle and the other remaining circles (except the smallest
one with a measurement of 1.25 radius) to emphasize its shape. • The smallest
circle will be sand to form a semi-circle for the innercore. • Next is to cover
all the semi-circles and the other ones using glue and tissues (For first layer) let it dry
• Make a paper mache to form the land parts of the model, let it dry after. •
Paint each part using acrylic paints according to its assigned colors. • Lastly
assemble and label the parts of the model.
Application

Lesson Layers of the Earth

Outcomes • Identify the different layers of the earth •

Describe each of the layers of the earth

Materials • Sample Model of the Earth's basic Structure • A video

presentation of our Earth's Layer • FlashCards and
Charts of Earth's Layer

Procedures 1. Begin the lesson by asking students what they know

about the layers of the earth. Ask their perspective
about the earth's layer and what it looks like down the
earth.

2. Present a video presentation about the layers of the

earth They will determine what components each
layers of the earth made of and also its distance.

3. Show the model of the Earth's Layer to see a realistic

form of Earth's layer and briefly review what they
learned in thevideo and solidify the key words about
the earth's layer.

4. Show flash cards of questions or pictures with fill in

the blank to the students that raise their hands or point
student to answer some crucial question about the
earth's layer.

5. Do a short quiz after to see the result if the students

learned something about the topic.
