Learner Profiles
Learner profiles are the cornerstone and
heart of the International Baccalaureate
Program. Although intended to be used in IB schools, they are certainly
relevant and useful for use in all classrooms. The IB curriculum, with
respect to the learner profiles, address the whole child and who they
are as learners. The focus is on a learner that is internationally
minded, recognizes common humanity, and recognizes the shared
guardianship of the planet. Their desire is to go beyond academic
success and help to create a better and more peaceful world. Students
that are engaged in activities that build character, are relevant and
meaningful experiences, are more highly motivated to succeed in
school, in community, in life. As teachers, we must guide our students
to look beyond the classroom. Our goal is to develop responsible,
lifelong learners. Teaching our students the learner profiles can help
them shape their lives in positive, productive ways.
You cannot fully understand your own life without
knowing and thinking beyond your own life, your
own neighborhood, and even your own nation.
