Course Description
This course equips students with knowledge and skills to improve their English mastery especially reading skills. Student
will learn how to read English reading materials, such as text book and journal articles in the area of pharmacy. Students
will also learn language components such as vocabulary, pronunciation (English sound systems), and grammar to build
the foundation for the language skills which are developed in an integrated and structured fashion. This course promotes
acquisition of vocabulary which is mostly projected to occur outside of classroom through some exposure to English texts,
which are later monitored in classroom. These activities will play equally important roles as those occurring in classroom.
To realize the potentials, students are expected readiness and preparation of students before the classroom lectures
begin.

Objectives
The course is intended to build foundation and develop students’ English language skills. By the end of the course,
students will be able to:

∙ Have some vocabulary specifically English academic words in the field of Pharmacy
∙ Analyze English sentence structure
∙ Understand spoken English dialog and monolog
∙ Understand English reading passages
∙ Improve overall English language proficiency test skills

Activities
The activities involve two important aspects, classroom activities and home assignments. Lecturing, discussion, untimed
and timed practices will mostly underway in classroom and are closely assessed by instructors. Since this studying
language requires exposure to the target language, students are expected to conform to the rules of assignment mostly
in the form of independent study which later need to be reported.

Evaluation:
Midterm examination 15%
Final Examination 15%
Active Participation and weekly assignment @ 5%
