I. OBJECTIVE: Using weather instruments and describing weather components

II. SUBJECT MATTER:
Topic: Using weather instruments and describing weather components
Reference: Teacher Guide pp.313-319, Learners’ Materials pp. 279-287
Materials: room/wall thermometers, thermometer, Manila Paper, markers
Process Skills: Observing, communicating, measuring, comparing,contrasting,
contrasting, inferring
Values Integration: Taking care of the weather instruments

PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Review
The teacher will show a picture of a water cycle then she will ask the following questions.
 What do you think is water cycle as shown?
 What are the different forms of water in our environment?
 Do you think each form of water is important?
 What is the illustration about?
 What are the processes involved in the water cycle?
 What do you think is the role of the Sun in the water cycle?

III. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES

Let the pupils sing this
2. EXPLORATION
Engage the pupils to hands-on activity. Have the following classroom standards set first:
 Manner of grouping the pupils
 Behavior during group work
 Precautionary measures to be observed
 Duration of Activity/Time Allotment
 Pupil’s engagement in the activity

Divide the pupils into 5 groups. Provide each group a room thermometer.
Let them do the activity 1 – “How do you use me?”
The teacher will let the pupils to list down the temperature readings of these two
thermometers below in your Science notebook.

Guide Questions:
What do o F and o C means?
Why are there long and short lines?
What is the use of the red liquid inside the thermometer?
What is the temperature inside the house?
What is the temperature outside the house?
Which thermometer is showing the lower temperature?
Which thermometer is showing the higher temperature?
Compare the temperature readings inside and outside the classroom.

3. EXPLANATION:
1. Let each group report the findings.
2. Process the answers of the pupils.
 What is the average temperature inside the classroom?
 What is the average temperature outside the classroom?
3. Let them compare the air temperature readings.
 What do these data of air temperature will tell you?
 What time of the day is the temperature highest?
 What time of the day is the temperature lowest?
 At what weather condition is the temperature low?

4. ELABORATION:
Strengthen the concepts developed through the discussion of using weather
instruments and describing weather components.
Ask: What are the instruments used to measure air temperature?
What is the importance of knowing how to use these instruments?
What are you going to do to take care of these instruments?
