Chapter 1 (Scene #1): Meet, Aladdin.

(Close curtain)

Once upon a time, there was this boy named, Aladdin. Aladdin lived far, far away in

the east. He lives in this far away land called Agrabah. It is a glimmering, bustling Arabian

desert kingdom, currently under the rule of a kind-hearted Sultan and his daughter, Princess

Jasmine.

One morning, after the sun was up. In the busy market of Agrabah, Aladdin was

doing the usual. Stealing a piece of bread for breakfast.

(Setting: Busy Market)

“Stop there! You little thief!” Said by one of the Guards.

“I’ll have your hands for a trophy, Street Rat.” The other Guard said.

“There he is!”

“All of this for a loaf of bread?” Aladdin said in I-Can’t-Believe-It tone, his eyebrows raising a bit.

“You won’t get away so easily!” Said by the Guards.

“Oh you think that was easy?” Aladdin said, teasing the Guards. The two ladies who saw

Aladdin giggled on the side.

“Good morning, Ladies.” Aladdin said charmingly.

“Getting into trouble a little early today, aren’t we, Aladdin?” The older lady said, her tone’s a bit

teasing.
“Trouble? No way. You’re only in trouble if you get caught.” Aladdin said with confidence, not
knowing that the Guards were already near him. He ran as fast as he could so the Royal Guards
won’t catch him.

Aladdin had a blast while the Royal Guards ran and tried to catch him. He simply enjoyed how
the Royal Guards look so dumb while chasing him.

“Being a street-rat is not that bad at all, look at these Royal Guards. Hahahaha!” Said by Aladdin.

(Close curtain | Change background – Empty Alleyway)

After Aladdin escaped from the Royal Guards, he found an empty alley way and he decided to eat
the bread there. He was about to eat the bread but then he saw a kid searching for food in a pile
of garbage. Aladdin’s eyes softened at the sight of the kid, he sighed then got up to give the bread
to the them so they have something to eat.

“Here, come on, take it.” Aladdin said in a soft voice.

The little girl shyly took the bread from Aladdin’s hand, then she smiled happily and looked very
thankful.

Aladdin has nothing to do after he gave the loaf of bread to the hungry little kid so he left her
there and walked his way out the empty alley way. When he was finally out the alley way, another
suitor of Jasmine has arrived the Palace. Everyone was busy gossiping about him, murmurs there
and murmurs here. Aladdin simply listened and watch the whole surroundings.

“On his way to the palace I supposed.” Said by the lady.

“Another suitor for the princess.” The other lady said.

After eating the food that Aladdin gave, the little girl ran to the streets where it was about to be
run over by Jasmine’s new suitor.

“Get out of my way.” said furiously by Prince Achmed.

Aladdin, however, stood up and protected the little girl from getting hurt.

“Hey, I can afford you some manners,” said by Aladdin. The people in town laugh at them.

“You are the worthless street rat, you are born as street rat, you'll die as street rat” said by Prince

Achmed oppressively.

Looking so sad, because of what the prince said, he walked his way to his home. It might be true,
he might die as a street rat, but deep inside, there’s still hope.

“Someday things are going to change, I’ll be rich, live in the palace, and never have any problems
at all,” Aladdin said in a sad tone. He looked outside his house. From the window of his house, he
can clearly see the beautiful and shining Palace.

(Close curtain | Dark Background)

One evening, Jasmine ran away from the palace. She cannot take it anymore. His Father keep on
forcing her to marry someone who she doesn’t even know and love. She already had enough of it.

(Close curtain | Change Setting – Busy Market)

“Pretty Lady, buy a pot” convincingly said by the seller.

“No, but thank you.” Said by Jasmine. She walked away from the stall and she suddenly bumped
into a lady who’s also a vendor.

“Oh, excuse me, I’m very sorry.” Jasmine said in a worried tone.

Aladdin on the other hand, was eating the watermelon that he stole that morning, he saw Jasmine
and was immediately stunned by her beauty.

“Wow.” Aladdin said in awe.

Jasmine was amazed by the surroundings, it’s her first time. She grew up not getting the chance to
explore the outside world. It pretty amazes her, she feels free, at last. While taking a stroll in the
market, Jasmine saw a girl looking at the fruits.

“You must be hungry, here you go” Jasmine took a piece of apple from the table and carefully
handed it to the girl.

The girl shyly took the apple from Jasmine’s hand and the lady who owns the stall saw Jasmine
give the apple to the girl.

“You better be able to pay for that.” said by the Lady in a mean tone.

“Pay?” Jasmine asked, pretty confused.

“No one steal from my cart.” The Lady said angrily and she used force to hold Jasmine’s hand.
Trying to scare and intimidate her.

“I’m sorry Ma’am, I don’t have any money,” Jasmine said.

“Please, if you let me go to the palace, I can get it from the Sultan,” Jasmine said frighteningly.
Aladdin saw Jasmine struggling to escape from the Lady’s tight hold.

“Do you know what’s the punishment for stealing?” said by the Lady.

“No, no please.” Jasmine said.

When the lady was about to hurt Jasmine, Aladdin immediately stop the Lady.

“Oh, thank you, kind Ma’am. I’m so glad you found her.” Said by Aladdin while taking the Lady’s
hand.
“I’ve been looking all over for you.” said by Aladdin to Jasmine.

“What are you doing?” Jasmine asked in a low and confused tone.

“Just play along,” Aladdin answered lowly.

“You know this girl?” The Lady asked while putting her hand on Aladdin’s shoulder.

“Sadly yes, she’s my sister. She's a little crazy.” Aladdin said meaningfully. Jasmine was surprised
by what Aladdin just said.

“She said she knows the sultan.” The Lady ceased her forehead.

“She thinks she knows the Sultan.” Aladdin playfully put his arms behind Jasmine’s shoulder.
Jasmine then, played along with Aladdin.

“Oh my Sultan, the Greatest!” Jasmine acted like she’s worshipping someone and bowed.

“Tragic isn't it? But no harm done.” Aladdin said to the Lady while getting the apple by his feet,

then threw it back to the table.

“Now, come along sis. Time to see the doctor.” said Aladdin while getting Jasmine up.

“Oh, hello doctor. How are you?” Jasmine said to Aladdin.

“No, not me.” Aladdin said.

The two of them walked away from the stall where the Lady is looking at them suspiciously.
“Come back here you little thieves.” The Lady screamed at them after she realized that Aladdin
attempted to steal from her. Aladdin and Jasmine ran away from the Lady giggling. They were
almost get into trouble but they find it fun and amusing.

Aladdin led Jasmine into his simple one room home, made of stone located atop a high building
near the borders of Agrabah. When Jasmine saw the view, she was awed. She never saw the Palace
from a high ground. It looks beautiful and shiny. She was enjoying the view but when she
remembered what kind of life she lives in there, she sighed.

Aladdin can’t get his eyes off of Jasmine, the reason why he noticed when Jasmine’s eyes turned
sad while looking at the Palace. Her eyes were looking so sad but at the same time, it’s so sparkly,
making Aladdin stare at her even more. He went beside Jasmine and looked at the Palace again.

“The palace looks so amazing huh?” said Aladdin.

“Oh, it's wonderful.” Jasmine said sadly, then sat down.

“I wonder what it will be like to live in the Palace. Have servants, have someone cook foods for
you, and have a lot of clothes to wear.” Aladdin said.

“Oh sure, people would tell you where to go, how to dress…” Jasmine rolled her eyes in the air.

“That’s better than here. You're always craving for food and chased by the guards.” Aladdin
chuckled. He then sat right next to Jasmine.

“You're not free to make your own choices.” Jasmine said disappointingly.

“Sometimes you feel so—”

“You just—”
“Trapped.” Jasmine and Aladdin said at the same time. They both looked at each other, surprised.
They stared at each other for a minute before Aladdin cleared his voice and looked away, Jasmine
did the same.

“Um, so where are you from?” Aladdin asked.

“It doesn't matter, I run away and I am not going back.” Jasmine said and sighed.

“Really? How could?” Aladdin looked at her.

“My father’s forcing me to get married to someone who I don’t even know.” Jasmine said sadly.

“Uh, that’s awful.” Aladdin scratched the back of his head, he feels like he just opened up a
sensitive topic and made them both fall in an awkward silence.

They sat there, without talking, but then they were surprised when they heard the Royal Guards’
voices from outside. Jasmine panicked and so do Aladdin.

“There you are!” One of the Guard screamed.

“They’re after me.” Jasmine and Aladdin said at the same time.

“They’re after you?” Jasmine and Aladdin said at the same time again and they both look at each
other, confused.

“Father must send them to–” said Jasmine.

“Do you trust me?” Aladdin asked out of nowhere.

“What...?” Jasmine
“Do you trust me?” Aladdin asked once again and gently offered his hand to Jasmine.

“Ye– yes…” Jasmine said in a low voice, almost sounded like a soft whisper.

“Then run!” Aladdin screamed then pulled Jasmine to his side before running away as fast as they
could.

Aladdin and revealed that she’s the Princess)

“We just keep running into each other, don't we street rat?” said by one of the Guards while
choking Aladdin.

“Let him go!” Jasmine charged at the Guard choking and keeping a hold on Aladdin, then she
used force to punch the man on his shoulder.

“Look at here man, a street mouse.” The other Royal Guard teased upon seeing Jasmine. Jasmine
was pushed away by the Guard.

“Hey!” Aladdin attempted to get off from the Guard’s hold but the Guard immediately get a hold if
him again.

“Unhand him by the order of the princess” said Jasmine while taking his hood off

The guards were shocked. Then there are all bowed to the princess

“Princess Jasmine”

“The princess?!” Aladdin said in a confused and surprised tone.

“What are you doing outside the palace? And with this street rat?” The Guard asked.
“That’s not your concern.” Jasmine said in a sophisticated tone.

“Do as I command, release him.” Jasmine pointed her finger at Aladdin.

“Wah, I would Princess, except my orders come from Jafar. You’ll have to take it from him.” The
Guard said and shook his head.

“Believe me, I will.” said Jasmine.

(Open curtain | Change background – Palace)

Jasmine came back to the Palace furiously looking for Jafar. She wants to free Aladdin, the man is
kind and he even helped her get away from the trouble at the market. She’s pissed at Jafar. How
dare he arrest someone without the Sultan’s permission?

“Jafar?!” shouted by Jasmine.

“Princess? How may I help you?” Jafar bowed his head.

“The guards just took a boy from the market, at your orders!” Jasmine raised her voice.

“But your father charges me in keeping peace at Agrabah. The boy was criminal.” Jafar said in the
most unbothered and calm tone,

“What was his crime? Jasmine asked.

“Kidnapping the princess, of course.” Jafar said and turned his back on Jasmine.

“He did not kidnap me, I run away!” Jasmine said irritatedly.

“Oh dear, frightfully upsetting.” The Royal Vizier said in a mocking tone.
“What do you mean?”

“Sadly, the boy was punished to carried out.” said Jafar.

“What punishment?” Jasmine asked out of curiosity.

“Death.” Jafar said without any emotion.

Jasmine gasped.

“I'm exceedingly sorry, Princess.” Jafar utter.

“How could you?!” Jasmine’s heart dropped. She cannot contain her feelings anymore, she ran
away and went to her own room to cry.
