READING [ ___ / 10 Total Items]
READING 1: You are going to read some film reviews. Read the reviews below and do Task 1.
THIS WEEK AT THE CINEMA
3200 (Cert 15)
This film is set in the future and the story is about the lives of a boy and his sister. I usually don’t like this
type of film, but the two young actors, Damian Shultz and Greta Simons, were amazing as the boy and girl.
The story is good and you don’t know what is going to happen next and this keeps you interested the whole
time. This is a film to go and see in the cinema.
Laugh Night (Cert 15)
I love to laugh, so I was very excited when I went to the cinema. In the end, I wasn’t happy. I saw the trailer
and thought the film looked great. I knew one of the actors, Tosh Ellis, and liked his last two films, but he
wasn’t good in this one. I think I laughed twice in the 90 minutes, not very good when a ticket costs £8.
Watch the trailer, but not the film, as that’s about as good as it gets!
The Blade (Cert 18)
One of the best films of the year, but that isn’t a surprise. Emma Davies won an Oscar last year and was great
in this film. The director, Ivan Rodriguez, is brilliant and I love all his films! I also loved the special effects.
It’s the type of horror film people will love or hate, but that’s always the way with this genre. The only
problem was the end wasn’t very good, but I thought the film was awesome!

Day of the ‘killer’ tomato
A) I went to my first festival in Spain in 2010 and every year try to go to a new one somewhere in Europe.
Last year, I went to the famous La Tomatina festival in Buñol near Valencia with three of my friends.
B) We bought tickets for a three-day tour and we stayed in a hotel in Valencia. The ticket cost £175, but that
included the hotel for three nights, so I think it was quite good value.
C) Buñol is about 38 km from Valencia, so first we woke up early and drove to the town. We got to the Plaza
del Pueblo in the centre of the town at around 10 am. Next, at about 11 am a water cannon was fired into the
crowd. Then, people started picking up tomatoes and throwing them at each other. You have to squash the
tomatoes in your hand before you throw them so they don’t hurt anyone.
D) The whole event lasted an hour. It finished when another water cannon was fired. After that, we tried to
find somewhere to wash. We were lucky as we found someone with a big hose. Finally, we found a café to
have lunch and laugh about the day.
E) I thought it was great fun – almost 20,000 people having a big fight with tomatoes! Next year I want to
go to the Cheese Rolling in England.
