How to setup the MD-UV380/390 to display all the contact information on the
MD-UV380/390 screen
By: VE1JCS
-Go to the TYT website and download the latest firmware for the MD-UV380/390:
http://www.tyt888.com/?mod=download
-In the downloaded firmware package you will get several files:
-Follow the instructions in the firmware folder you downloaded, the file is called “Operation” and it is a
MS word document. It will instruct you on how to put your radio into program mode, and load the new
firmware. If radio is not in program mode when you try to flash it then the next time you turn your radio
on it will display as sample below. DO NOT PANIC IF THIS HAPPENS, I forgot to do this and all I did was
re flash firmware and this time making sure it was in program mode first. This can also happen if you
load the wrong firmware.
-Select “Utilities”
-Your going to go to menu settings 13,14,& 15 and adj. As shown in the following pictures :
-Once you got that all done you can install the correct CPS software and start working on your code plug
-In order to load the new data base you will need one specific for your radio, MD-UV380. You can find
these in the MD-UV380 group on Face book or make your own as I did from the following site:
http://www.amateurradio.digital/wizard.php?radio=md2017&force=yes
-follow the instructions on the site for your radio make and model and download it.
-You will then see this box pop up again as nothing happened
-A few seconds later you will get this window pop up showing file import succ
-now click ok and you will be brought back to this box once again
-Now you need to make sure your radio is connected to the computer with the programming cable and
turned on . “ NOTE: the radio should NOT be in firmware program mode”
-Now click on the “write” button and you should see the bar go across the screen while it is
downloading the information to your radio.
Note: this could take a while depending on the size of the file your loading.
-Once completed you can turn your radio off and back on again and it should display all the information
on the screen.
-I quickly put this together in hopes it may help others with the same issues I had while trying to find out
if there was a 380tools for the newer MD-UV380 I had bought. I too asked on the groups and received
lots of feedback and help from other and put this information together from the info I received in hopes
it would help others who are asking the same questions I did.
-Thank you for downloading and looking at this document, and thank you to all those who replied to my
original inquires on this same question. VE1JCS (James)
