SPORT
These days people are under a lot of pressure at school, at work and at home. They have
little time to think about their health. Most people only start to think about their health
when it is too late, when some health problem occurs. Doing physical exercises should be
started at an early age. There are a lot of opportunities for children and for all ages to do
sports. For example there are football pitches open to the public, people can go jogging to a
park, there is a growing number of fitness centres and swimming pools.
Sport can be divided into several categories:
individual sport: gymnastics, shooting, skiing
team sport: ballgames- football, handball, volley-ball, ice hockey, water polo
winter sport: skating, skiing, sledging, curling,
water sport? swimming(backstroke, backstroke, butterfly stroke, freestyle), surfing,
sailing, diving
avian sport: paragliding, parachuting,
combat sport: judo, karate, kick-boxing, boxing, kung-fu, wrestling
extreme sport: bungee jumping, white water rafting, rock climbing
mental sport: chess, different cards,
Besides burning calories, team sports
have a lot of advantages: social,
emotional and physical. Players think
about the group as a whole, they are
happy for another player's success.
Doing sport is very important at an early
age as well. There are a lot of
opportunities for kids. They can play
football, play handball, go swimming. It
doesn't matter what they do, they just
have to be outdoors in the fresh air as
much as possible.
In many cases children do sports just for
fun, but in many cases they dedicate
their childhood to training, getting up
early, travelling at weekends. They take
sport seriously and they take part in
competitions.
The Olympic Games are an international
multisport event. They are organised
every four years. Medals are given in
each event: gold medal for the first
place, silver for the second and bronze
for the third. There are Summer
Olympic Games and Winter Olympic
games. There are Paralympics for
athletes with physical and visual
disabilities.
Physically disabled people should be
involved in sport events. They can feel
they are valuable people and although
they are disabled they hope in everyday
life.
Sport role models are very important
especially for young children . They look
up to them, follow them.
Being a professional sportsman has a
lot of benefits and a lot of drawbacks as
well. They earn a lot of money, they are
popular among people, they are role
models for children. On the other hand
they have to devote all their life to
sport. They can't eat what they want,
they don't have as much free time as
they want.
In Hungary the most famous sports are
football, handball , water polo and
swimming. It can be played everywhere:
at school, in the park, in the street on
the beach. You only need a ball and
some friends to play with. A lot of
players started their career in the street
before they were signed by famous
clubs. Ferenc Puskás is a world famous
Hungarian football player.
In the PE lessons students usually start
with warming-up exercises, which are
jogging or some gymnastics focusing on
stretching. Then they either play
ballgames or do some jumps or throw
balls or run certain distances.
