The TOEFL Primary® Tests
The TOEFL Primary® tests belong to the TOEFL® Family of Assessments and can be used to support
the process of teaching English to students ages 8+. There are 3 TOEFL Primary® tests designed
to assess students’ skills at various levels, including beginners and those who have acquired
some communication skills.

Step 1: 1 – 4 stars each for the Listening and Reading sections
n Test for students at earlier stages of learning
Step 2: 1 – 5 badges each for the Listening and Reading sections

Speaking: 1 – 5 ribbons
nTest for young students at various levels of English-language proficiency
Step 1 and Step 2 – 60 minutes each

n This test cannot be failed - scores are based on a scale of points. Students also receive stars, medals or ribbons as
