Name of the dance: Bulaklakan

History of the dance: The province of Bulacan is where the Bulaklakan traditional dance first appeared in
the Philippines. A group of eight to ten female dancers who are all in the group do the dance. A bamboo
flute and a drum are used to accompany the dance.

Dance steps: The following are the steps of bulaklakan

 16 counts sway to the right and left, boy's hand behind, girl's flowers up (in place)
 8 counts of swaying right and left, boys' hands behind them, girls' flowers in the front.
 Sway to the right and left 2 counts, then turn to the right.
 Sway to the right and left while standing still.
 Boys turn left, girls kneel down
 Boys on their knees, girls veer to the left
 Form a circle (create a flower)
 Girls, turn right, turn left, then put your flowers down and hang it up (just you're like
awarding boys)
 steady at no. 3

Costume and props: The costume is Barong Tagalog on top, colourful skirt on the bottom, while the
props that is used is bamboos with an arched garlan of leaves and flowers.

Reflection: As I watched the videos of Bulaklakan dance it came across my mind of how I lived in the
province of Bulacan where it is originated. Its fun how I recall the memories of how happy people were
there including me, of how things I wish to bring back. The Bulaklakan dance makes me remember how
vibrant life was then. The props, the dance steps, the costume all of this reminds me how I gotten older.
It reminds me how the days of people in the farm were
