Now I will talk about the main character in speech from Act 3, Scene 1.

- Hamlet is the main character, he is son of king Denmark, the prince of Denmark and
also the previous King of Denmark. Speech from Act 3, Scene 1 is a soliloquy of
Hamlet when he talk to himeself about suicide and he cannot decide if he should
commit suicide or not. The conflict is Man versus self.

And next, I will analyze the main ideas of Hamlet

In speech from Act 3, Scene 1, Shakespeare has Hamlet communicate the ideas of death
and suicide, and even the value of living, directly.

- The speech is somewhat sad and melancholy.

- There was more to the passage than simply sadness, however. The speech was also
thoughtful, like an interal debate..
The first one is death. Hamlet must feel very conflict during this part of play. In line
9, he said, "to die, to sleep" he compare the death is also sleep.
The second one is suicide. He's trying to decide what to do with his life, and there are
good arguments on either side. He must feel very sad and hopeless, as well to even
be thinking about ending his life.

Uyên: Figurative language:

Now I will talk about the Figurative Language in speech from Act 3, Scene 1 of
Hamlet.
In speech have 3 figurative technique. Auditory imagery, alliteration and metaphor.
- First one.
+ we have one example of auditory imagery is line 22: "to grunt and sweat under a
weary life"
+ grunt (V) : (of a person) to make a short, low sound instead of speaking, usually
because of anger or pain (đưa vô slide)
- The second one :+ we have some examples of alliteration in Hamlet:
In line 6 : "By sleep to say: we have same sound S in "sleep" and "say".
In line 9 and 10: It has same sound D in "Devoutly", "wish'd", "die", and "dream".
- In addition: we have line 21, 23 and 28, it is also the alliteration, you can see it on the
slides.
- The third one is metaphor.
. In line 3. " The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune" it is means the bad things
that happen to people in life for no reason.
. In line 11. "For in that sleep of death what dreams may come" it is means we don’t
know what will happen after we die.
. In line 24. " The undiscover'd country from whose bourn/ No traveller returns" it is
means the death or afterlife.

Now I will continue present about the meter:
- The meter that Shakespeare uses in the speech is Iambic pentameter. Shakespeare
often uses iambic pentameter. It is also the most common kind of meter in English
poetry. This is because is a very natutal-souding rhythm. And Shakespeare uses
iambic pentameter when his characters are disccusing something important or
profound.
And then, I am going to talk about the setting.
- The first one, you know Bernardo and Francisco who are two night watchmen in the
castlse of Elsinore in Denmark. So we have Bernardo start this play saying "Who's
there" and we have Francisco is also answer "nay answer me, stand and unfold
yourself" and Bernardo is really can't see Francisco and he just hear someone coming
the castle. So you can know that the seeting must be dark, since the people can't see
each other.

- The second one, Hamlet said the air bites shrewdly; it is very cold and you can know
that it is cold and windy.
- And the last one, you can read on the slides, and you can see that The characters are
in a graveyard and the clowns are digging.
- so based on the given lines, I can tell that it is dark, it is cold, and they are in a
graveyard.
Now Minh Thi will continue the presentation.
Minh Thi.
In summary, this work has 3 themes we must remember that is death, indecision, fear

First, death :

"To die, to sleep,"

"sleep of death,"!

In this sentence Hamlet considers death like sleep, the end of all suffering and sorrow that
he has to endure. But that's just his opinion

As for the rest of the sentences, you can check them out

Next, indecision and I think it is the most important theme because

+ Hamlet says that he really wishes for relief that he thinks death will bring him. But at the
sane time, he cannot make up his mind. The very first question he asks, "to be or not to be,"
shows this indecision. He believes that death will bring him relief calling it a
"comsummation devoutly to be wished," but he cannot commit to it.

+ He can neither decide in favor of or against death.

And final, fear :

Hamlet is afraid that after he dies, what will happen to him? That is shown in the
sentences...

"The dread of something after death,"

"for in that sleep of death what dreams may come

When we have shuffled off this mortal coii, Must give us pause"

The lesson to be learned from the story is:

If people let anger and revenge get the best of them, they can cause damage.

In life you will be able to get away with something for long but not forever.
