FROM INFAMOUS
TO FAMOUS
Kapotnya is a densely populated working class area in the south-east of
Moscow. It was infamous for being close to an oil refinery plant causing
major pollution of air and water in the vicinity. After a 250-million-dollar
reconstruction the refinery is now producing much less damage to the
environment. However, much is left to be done to restore the ecological
balance of the area. One of the first steps was our project for regeneration of

WHERE THE DREAM BEGAN

Cultural Institutions
Back in 2021 we took part in a competition for the design of the
Russian national pavilion at EXPO 2025 in Osaka and proposed
three designs for it. Our idea and dream was to promote the
image of Russia as an innovative country open to international
cooperation

“CIRCLES OF TIME” PAVILION

The "Circles of Time" pavilion follows the design of the famous
Shukhov Tower and refers to the trees' growth rings, which are
meant to be associated with the historic cities of Russia

METAL TOWER-TREES
Expanding metal tower-trees serve as the main supporting
frame of the pavilion and support the wave-shaped roof, which
covers the entire building like a patterned fabric

“The Most Temporary” pavilion conceptually
develops the ideas of 1920s futurism and
suggests a reflection on the phenomenon of time

membranes with a mapping print

ZERO POINT
On entering the pavilion, visitors enter the 'zero
point', a simulated black hole where the laws of
physics do not apply

“PATH” PAVILION

Cultural Institutions
The Möbius loop design of the “Path” pavilion
symbolizes the continuous flow of time,
represented by the “Life”, “Fading” and “Rebirth”
exhibits

CHANGING COLORS
The façade of the pavilion is clad in steel panels
that change color from light to dark and back
again, emphasizing the theme of the journey from
the moment of life's beginnings through decay to
rebirth

INCLUSIVITY
Visitors move along a ramp with vantage points
on each side, a continuous line running through
the entire exposition space. The pavilion is
designed to be accessible — there are no stairs
along the way

The design is based on combining two
