CAREER THAT YOU INTERESTED IN BESIDES YOUR CAREER NOW
From Oxford Learner’s Dictionary, a career is the series of job that a person has in a
particular area of work, usually involving more responsibility as time passes. Developing a
career plan is crucial since it provides the much-needed direction and clarifies how we
should envision ourselves in the future. As for now, I am currently pursuing a
career in education where I have to teach student at school. Quoted from
words of wisdom by former president of Turkey, Mustafa Kamal Ataturk said
that “A good teacher is like a candle- they consume themselves to light others
way”. It is the most unexpected career move that l made considering my
childhood dream job was to be a police officer. This is true since it has been
established that teaching is a noble profession but I have some reasons that
attracted me to choose a career in policing which were the opportunity to eliminate criminal
cases in our country, job secure, the privilege of being a police officer and the adventurous
nature of the job compared to my current job as a teacher.
The main reason why I want to be a police officer because I can contribute to lower
crime rates in our country. Based on a report from global database site Numbeo (2021),
Malaysia ranks fourth in the crime index rate in the Asian region and ranked 26th out of 133
countries around the world. As we can see, numerous crimes are increasing in our country
such as a murder, rape, robbery, vehicles theft and
others. Thus, a police officer plays an important role in
keeping the community’s peace and preventing crimes
by taking a legal action as soon as possible to the
offender. For example, a drug processing and trafficking
syndicate was busted when police arrested 11
individuals and seized 141.4 kilogrammes (kg) of various types of drugs, estimated to be
worth RM8.07 million in Klang Valley. Then, being a police officer also enables me to
support the truth by gathering evidence for the prosecution and testifying in court. As we
know, the investigation of crimes is the responsibility of the enforcement agencies like the
Royal Malaysian Police. However, if I were a police officer, I would have to present evidence
in court to support those who are on the right side and not hide the truth in order to make our
country as a crime-free country in the future. It is completely dissimilar from my profession
now as a teacher, where I must introduce and explain the country's laws in class to my
students so that they can grasp them better and deter criminal behaviour. Hence, I prefer

being a police officer besides my current career as a teacher because I want to aid in
lowering the crime rate and preserving peace throughout our country.
Other than that, police officers don’t have a high salary compared to a teacher, but a
career as a police officer is also a secure job. It is uncommon to heard that the police officer
has been fired or requires a second job. Basically, a police officer in Malaysia typically earns
around RM 3880 per month. This career also has significant benefits because many police
officers receive various types of insurance such as life, medical,
vision and dental insurance. They also get paid for family leave,
sick leave, vacation and long-term disability. Some employers offer
their police officers generous retirement plans and life insurance
policies. So, being a police officer being will not cause financial
problems and will have more benefits compared to my current
career as a teacher who only receives a salary but has to find a side jobs because of the
high standard of living in our country.
Furthermore, I was interested to be a police officer because I am attracted with their

smart uniforms and vehicles assets. Their type of uniform varies according to suitability and
specific occasions. For example, police officers need to wear white uniform shirts and dark
blue barathea pants with light blue velvet stripes for
events held outside the building such as police day
celebrations and national hero's day celebrations,
while the police must wear a blue-black shirt and
pants with a blue-black beret according to the unit
for parades. I am envious of the police officers
because as a teacher, we merely have to wear baju kurung for women and a plain coloured
shirts for men every day at school and are not required to wear uniforms like the police
officer. As we know, not all schools have police cadets as a uniformed association and
unfortunately I never had the chance to try on a police
outfit. Moreover, the police officer will conduct an
operation by riding in police asset vehicles such as
police cars and trucks. This can save the cost of
individuals vehicle expenses and make daily business
easier. Based on a research, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) began taking delivery of the
first of its 425 new Honda Civic 1.8 S patrol cars which are equipped with RMPNeT

communication equipment, dashboard cameras and digital video recorders, in order to

replace Proton Wira and Proton Waja police cars in stages and will take on patrol and
enforcement duties. The force is also set to add another 850 vehicles consist of 653 Civic
1.8s sedans and 197 units of Proton X70 SUV, bringing the total replacement of the vehicles
to 1,275 units to completely modernise its patrol vehicle fleet. Among the assets of police
vehicles that are always used such as Honda VFR800 for patrol motorcycles, Honda CRV as
a VIP transport, HICOM Perkasa as a police trucks and others. As a result, it is clear that the
uniqueness of the smart appearance and vehicles as a police officer has attracted me to
choose this career instead of my career as a teacher now.
In conclusion, it is obvious that I am interested in a career as a police officer besides

my career now because I want to eliminate criminal cases in our country, job secure as a
police officer, help individuals in the community and experience the adventurous nature of
the job compared to my current job as a teacher. As we know, the community also needs
someone who can be trusted to keep the local area safe. They see the police officer as a
strong person, brave, and someone who is able to fight
or eradicate a crime. So being a police officer will play
an important role to help people living their life better
with peace and prosperity without violance. Every
member of the community including me ought to respect
the sacrifices made by the police officer even if the
things done are small. Despite the fact that being a
police officer is my career that I interested, fate has other plans for me. Therefore,
regardless of my field of employment, I must carry out all responsibilities with honesty and
integrity.
