Introduction

Irregular sentences are the using of irregular verbs in sentences, irregular


verbs are the verbs which have their own rules in their changing. In irregular verbs,
the first principal part of a verb is the simple form of the verb, the second principal
part is the past tense, the third principal part is participle, for example (Begin,
began begun) (Marcella, 1972: 47). This research will examine the role of using
irregular sentences in classroom discourse, it’s known that Classroom discourse
plays an important role in the success of teaching and learning process. It is
necessary for teachers to maintain good communicative practices to understand the
dynamics of classroom discourse and avoid misunderstanding due to differences in
students' backgrounds, expectations, and perceptions. Teachers and learners need
to develop interactional competence to create more engaged and dynamic
classrooms in which learners are actively involved in the learning process. It can
be inferred that teachers need to carefully craft their language used in the
classroom so that students are encouraged to take turns and take parts in the
classroom communication. In classroom, language is the means for both teachers
and students obtain new knowledge and skills, solve problems, exchange
information, and build rapport. Thus, effective language classroom will promote
effective learning. So, in this paper the researcher will analyse the classroom
discourse to see the amount of using irregular verbs and their effect in teaching-
learning process.
