ACTIVITY 1 – REFLECTION PAPER
1st Semester 2021-2022
Name: Sumilang, Bea Kathlin L.
Year and Course: 1st Year and Bachelor of Fine Arts
A protector and a strong-willed educator. Manuel Sarmiento Enverga humbly
attributes good qualities that led him to his journey’s success. Featuring a nationalistic
ideology that made the people surrounding him believe his capabilities. This globally
competitive university will never have been developed without his outstanding
credibility. The eminency of Enverga will forever be sculpted in our young hearts, for he
gave us hopes in achieving our goals. A film adapted from him was directed by Carmelo
B. Saliendra as it commemorates the greatness of our founder, Enverga.
In the town of Baranggay Bato in Mauban, Quezon. On January 1, 1909, the
youngest of seven children was Manuel Sarmiento Enverga. His parents are Jose
Enverga, an ordinary sculptor, and Romana Sarmiento. They guided and taught him
fundamental values an individual needs to learn. AHeas already fond of playing the
violin at a young age, and he exhibited excellence by earning a high average in his
school. Also, his curiosity, later on, led him to patriotism to his fellow countrymen. And
despite being the youngest, he’s a diligent child who took care of his father’s duties after
he’s been paralyzed. Ka Maning showed a passion for music and is an active member
of the Philippine Symphony Orchestra in his secondary education. Something that I
personally admire about him. Then his love for music led him to meet Rosario Lopez.
His father’s death and his mother’s blindness didn’t stop him from following the
path of law. That’s why he pushed himself to study and fulfill his goal in life. The
determination and positivity he shows is unremarkable and can help every youth that we
shouldn’t loath for too long and continue to go forward. On April 10, 1940, he married
Rosario and raised four children: Wilfrido, Jazmin, Naila, and Manuel Jr. He left his
family in Lucena to work as a lawyer in Manila. However, World War II made him decide
to reside temporarily in Mauban. The war also provoked his duty to help his fellowmen,
especially the youth, by building a school. He firmly believes that education is the key to
success. And indeed, he is right. Education is a strong foundation for an individual’s
betterment, and as Envergan, we shall carry his words to our journey. In 1947, he was
delegated as the president of the Philippine Academy of Foreign Affairs. Along with that,
he’s been awarded as well at Inter Asian Relations Conference in New Delhi, India.
Founding a school and being professional didn’t stop him from pursuing law. He
graduated with high academic distinction in law at the University of Santo Tomas. After
that, he was persuaded to run for politics; however, he doubted it. Instead, he decided
to study in Madrid, Spain, for a doctorate in law and graduated. But he was only settled
with one thing: the Luzonian Colleges, sending teachers to study internationally and
adding courses to them. Later on, he pursued politics. He was elected as a
representative for the 1st district of Quezon Province, chairman of the house committee
on foreign affairs, and one of the most outstanding congressmen of 1968. He served for
16 years in Politics. He returned to his goal of providing high-class education to
Luzonian. He passed away on June 14, 1981, but his vision continues to reign until
now. Enverga showed us that no matter where you are in life, don’t ever think of giving
up and continue forward. His dedication to providing education stands out because of

how consistent he is with helping the youth. Ka Maning deserves the recognition he
received and is receiving. I believe that we, as Envergans, will cultivate his legacy and
pass it through to the next generation. Also, at a young age, he’s already aware of how
the world works, how vast his mind works, and how loyal we, countrymen, must act. At
that time, he built an unparalleled image that will forever embed Enverga, love, and
country.
In conclusion, Manuel Enverga or Ka Maning taught us that hard work
and respected values in life will help us grow individually. Those whose view in life is to
help others will be paid equally to what they give. MSEUF is an outstanding university,
and it shows how our founder is.
