In this course you are expected to:

1. Attend only one tutorial per week from the given slots.

2. In your first tutorials you need to form groups of four for case presentation and the same group could be
utilized for the group assignments and debates as well.

3. Please adhere to consultation hours of tutors and lecturers to avoid your own inconvenience. If
you wish to consult outside consultation hours, please make an appointment via email.

4. Students are expected to participate in the tutorial class by participating in discussing the discussion
questions; or raise questions about issues or points raised in the lectures, share their thoughts and
experience, show their application knowledge through case study presentations, debates or from their
own personal reading.

5. ALL attendance will be taken in tutorial classes. The attendance and participation will be assessed
from week 2-14. This is 5% towards the coursework mark but will purely be based on
constructive participation. University’s tutorial attendance policy of 60% is applied. Students must
attain at least a minimum of 60 percent tutorial attendance to pass this course. Failure to meet
this requirement means failing the course.

6. Case Study Presentation


Case study presentations will begin in week 4 and end in week 11 (Semester 1, 2020)

 Please note: Presentations will be assessed as a group overall; not individual member
presentations. Whatever mark is given, is group based so everyone in the group gets the same mark, thus
ensure that everyone contributes equally and aim for good marks. The marking rubric is available on Moodle.
This is 5% towards the coursework mark.

 Time Limit Breakdown

o Presentation time for all the group members- 15 minutes


o Question/Discussion Time- 5 minutes
o Tutor's remarks - 5 minutes

7. Other presentation details are as follows;

 No oral presentations are to be read (note- cards can be permitted as reference guide). Student
presentations are to be made in a relaxed, confident and professional manner.
 All team members should actively engage in the presentation and discussion that follows the
presentation. The use of visual aids (laptop/projector, overhead projector, charts, whiteboard and
handouts) i s r e c o m m e n d e d .
 Booking for use of visual aid can be arranged with SMPA secretaries and USP Media
Centre (Located in ICT Building) and note that prior arrangements will need to be made for those
that would like to deliver presentation using laptop/projector.

8. Debates :
Debates will begin in week 4 and end in week 7 (Semester 1, 2020)

 Same group as your presentation group will be utilized for debates. This assessment in tutorial class
is worth 5% towards your final course mark.

10. Assignments

Assignment 1 (Individual Assignment) - 10%


In an essay form, summarize chapter 1 in your own words and in one (1) page, including your bibliography.
You must discuss each subtopic separately in paragraphs in your own words.

The essay must not be more than or limited to 1 page of fond size 12 Times New Roman with 1.0 spacing in
proper citations and referencing style. This means that too less or too much may be problematic to you. Also
note that all borrowed ideas must be cited in the body of your essay and that must correspond with your
reference or bibliography. This is an academic paper and therefore must be properly referenced (in-text &
listed) with minimum of 5 resources – books and or journal articles only. Make sure to check your sentencing
structure, spelling and grammar.

This essay is due on Friday 28th February at 11.59pm. However, late assignment will still be received until the
weekend, i. e. until midnight on Sunday, 1st March 2020, may be with penalty. Remember that NO assignment
will be received for marking after this time.

Assignment 2 (Group Assignment)


This project is designed to provide the students with analytical tool and at the same time be able to connect theory
to practice.

This is a group project (made up of minimum of 2 and max of 4 members) and be reminded that assignment 1
instructions will also be used. So follow very carefully.

You have been recently appointed as the Strategic Manager of a public sector organization in your country to
take charge of the Strategic Management Department. Your first task is to identify and analyze different types of
control process in your organization. In response to the challenges that the organization is facing not only in
your country, but in the region as well as globally, discuss how you intend to improve them. After conducting a
research and in your own words, write a Re-engineering process plan in an effort to improve business process in
your organization. A proposed structure is provided below.
