LESSON PLAN EXEMPLAR GRADE 8 SCIENCE
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of this lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Identify the different stages of cell cycle;
b. Analyze the event of the different stages of mitosis; and
c. Realize the importance of mitosis in cells.

d. Science Concept
Cell division is the process by which a parent cell divides into two or more
daughter cells. Cell division usually occurs as a part of a larger cell cycle. In
eukaryotes, there are two types of cell division: a vegetative division, whereby each
daughter cell is genetically identical to the parent cell(mitosis), and a reproductive cell
division whereby the number of chromosomes in the daughter cells is reduced by half to
produce haploid gamete(meiosis).
III. PROCEDURE
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ RESPONSE
Routinary Activities
Everybody, stand up. The students will rise.
Before we start, let us have a prayer. Amen.
(The teacher will call someone from the class.)
Good morning class! Good morning Ma’am Queen!
Before you take your seats, arrange your chairs (After arranging their seats, they will now sit
properly. down.)
Is there any absent today? None Ma’am.
Elicit (Review)
Last meeting, we have talked about the cell. (Students will raise their hands.)
Can anybody recall what specific topic about
the cell we have discussed last meeting?
Yes Arjay? Ma’am we have discussed about the different
parts of the cell.
Very Good! Now what do you remember about (Students will raise their hands.)
the different organelles inside a cell?
Yes Andrew? Ma’am there’s a nucleus inside the cell.
Very good! Can you tell me what is the (Students will raise their hands.)
function of the nucleus?
Yes Juztin? The nucleus contains the DNA ma’am.
What about the other organelles? (Students will raise their hands.)
Yes Ellen? Ma’am there’s also the mitochondria! It looks
like a sausage.
Very good! What did the mitochondria do in (Students will raise their hands.)
the cell?
Yes Araceli? Ma’am is it the one responsible in creating
energy needed by the cell?
Exactly! Very good! I believe that everyone is Ma’am there’s none.
now familiar with the different organelles in a
cell. If there’s still someone who has questions
about it, feel free to ask now before we proceed
to our next topic.
If that’s so, then let’s proceed with our new (Students will listen attentively.)
lesson.
Engage (Motivation)
The teacher will show pictures of a baby and (Students will participate actively.)
an adult.
Guide Questions:
1. What is in the picture? Ma’am that’s a picture of a baby and an adult.
2. What is the difference between the The adult is bigger than the baby.
two?
3. What do you think happens to the cells Our cells grow bigger.
in our body when we grow? Our cells multiplied.
Very good! To accommodate the growth of our
body, our cells multiply. The process of cell
division would be our topic for today.
Explore
In our activity today, you would explore the (Students will listen attentively.)
different processes in cell division. After this
activity you must have a clear picture of what
happens during the process. Read the directions
carefully. If there are questions, just raise your
hand.
Before that, please partner with one of your
classmates so that we can start.
*Distribution of activity sheets and materials
*Activity Proper
Explain (Post Activity)
Okay time is up. Can I ask a volunteer to Okay ma’am.
present their work in the class? (Students will raise their hands.)
Okay. Please come here in front. While they (Presentation)
are presenting we will discuss the guide
questions in your activity.
Elaborate (Discussion)
Discussion on cell cycle and cell division. (Students will listen attentively.)

IV. GENERALIZATION
Cellular division is an important biological mechanism. It allows organisms to regenerate and
repair damages. It is also necessary for growth and development of organisms.

VI. EVALUATION
1. What are the different stages of cell cycle?
2. On what stage of the cell cycle daughter cells are formed?
3. How many daughter cells are produced in one cell cycle?
4. Identify the following stages of mitosis:
