SLAC Terminal/Completion/Narrative Report

I. Introduction/Rationale

Reading is a tool a person gets information from written letters and words.
Reading in classroom takes many forms, but it is often used as way of introducing
grammar or vocabulary items.
Learning to read is one of the essential educational products of primary education.
The capability to read is vital to learners’ learning, including their advancement of
wider literacy skills, and to their upcoming productive participation in society,
including the workforce.
Taking these into account, Reina Mercedes National High School implements its
Project H.O.P.E. (Home-Based learning on Oral reading thru distance learning
modalities Program to Enhance learners’ reading skills of RMNationalians) which
aims to make students be better readers while upgrading and remediating their
reading levels.
Mr. Edison L. Ramil, the school reading coordinator of R eina Mercedes National
High School (RMNHS), conducted regular forum for the Junior High School(JHS)
teachers, volunteer tutors, parents, and barangay officials on how to conduct a
flexible reading assessment despite the pandemic thru the Project H.O.P.E. (𝐇ome-
based learning on 𝐎ral reading thru distance learning modalities 𝐏rogram to 𝐄nhance
the reading skills of RMNationalians).
II. Significant Accomplishments
Through the conduct of the school reading program, the were following were
achieved/accomplished:
1. Conducted capacity building for reading teachers as well as to the volunteer tutors
through LAC;
2. Lowered the number of readers under frustration level
3. Developed instructional materials suited for learners level of reading capacity;
4. Come up with 10-week reading program;
5. Strengthened linkage from the community; and
6. Put up school reading center
III. Impact of Accomplishments
Through the conduct of the Learning Action Cell Sessions, the reading teachers
were capacitated, the volunteers tutors from the community were engaged from the
reading activities, the community people most especially the barangay officials were
so participative in the conduct of the activity which resulted to a great impact to the
learners.
The implementation of Project H.O.P.E. (Home-Based learning on Oral reading
thru distance learning modalities Program to Enhance the reading skills of
RMNationalians) has been one of the most promising reading programs of Reina
Mercedes National High School as it embraces and acknowledges the learners’
problem in reading.

The school reading coordinator, intensified the said program thru a 10-week
remediation activity coupled with SLAC sessions with relevant topics which helped
every reading teacher in the delivery of the instruction..

Grade level advisers from grade 7- grade 10 were given reading materials which
are suited in their reading level.
The teachers observed that every student in the first week of implementation has
been overwhelmed with fear and worry. But as time goes by, as they also improve in
their reading skills, they feel elated and more confident. Step by step, they can now
answer the questions given to them in a more concrete way.
As they see their fruit of toil and labor, they become more confident to answer
their activities. Their reading comprehension did not just go beyond their expected
outcome, their self-confidence also clinches a higher degree of self-fulfillment.
The lessons with varied activities have been prepared in alignment with relevant
and attractive instructional materials and specific stimulus activities that the students
learn best. The standardized materials which have been used are distributed from
grades 7-10.
