GATE Cracking Techniques:
Strategy 1: Understand the syllabus and decide which subject to study first
based on their weightage of marks.
1. Geotechnical Engineering – 13 - 15 Qualifying marks will be around 30.
2. Structural Engineering – 12 - 15
3. Environmental Engineering – 10 - 12
4. Water Resource Engineering– 13 - 14
Select minimum number of
5. Geomatics Engineering – 5
subjects sufficient for qualifying
6. Transportation Engineering – 11 -13
based on weightage of marks
7. General Aptitude - 15
8. Engineering Mathematics – 10
Then, Start concentrate only on
those subjects

Anil Sagar S 12
GATE Cracking Techniques
Strategy 2: If you want to read all subjects then know what not to read.

➢ Reading all subjects will be big task and its tedious, requires more
hard work.

So,

➢ Read the first 40% of the syllabus in all subjects thoroughly.

➢ Learn all the basic formulas in that subject and try to solve simple
problems.

➢ Know clearly what should not be read.

Numerical methods - 15 marks

Quantitative and verbal aptitude - 10 marks

GT – 15 marks
Transportation Engg – 11marks
Water resource Engg – 13 marks
