Every one of us, have a different way of understanding and it will depends to
them whom they will agree. For me, I agree with Spencer’s concept of” Survival
of the fittest” because his concept works in an environment that is “Physically
and emotionally “safe for student and adults and each student has access to
personalized learning. Students must learn from simple to complex and to a
specialized activity while in Singaporean’s “No Competition Concept”, it works
only for emotional safe environment. How can we survive if our physical aspect
is not safe, we are living in 21st century, an era of competition and every
Insti tuti on is graded according to their performance rati ngs. A student
cannot work eff ecti vely if his/her emotional environment is the only safe. It
should be the combination between the physical and emoti onal environment
in order for them to survive. To be a competent student has no
negati ve intention, what they want is to gain more knowledge and improve
their performance rather than to be a competitive to others.
END OF MODULE ASSESSMENT:
1. “Like people, like government.” What does this mean? Will John Locke agree? Justify your
answer.
John Locke believed that in a state of nature, no one's life, liberty or property
would be safe because there would be no government or laws to protect them.
This is why people agreed to form governments. According to Locke,
governments do not exist until people create them.
2. The modern explosion of knowledge has led to an age of specialization with this
concomitant quip:
A specialist knows more and more about less and less.
An expert knows more and more about less and less until he or she knows
everything about nothing.
A related joke cleverly twists this saying:
A generalist knows less and less about more and more until he or she knows
nothing about everything.
Should schools produce generalists or specialists? Defend your answer.
According to Nicholas Butler, an American philosopher said “ An expert is one
who knows more and more about less and less until he knows absolutely
everything about nothing” which seems quite apt in this situation. He added,
personal and professional development is more than just updating necessary
qualifi cati ons or brushing up on leadership skills, it is also about
keeping relevant, energized and focused. For me, to avoid inevitably self-
destruct, the optimum answer that a school must produce is Specialist with
experti se in the most common areas. If the head of a school genuinely
treasures the diversity of the school employees strength and give
what the needs of the students maybe we can achieve the standard
quality of education. Always remember, the collective whole can be stronger
than the sum of individuals. In addition, this is about assembling and valuing
different talents, knowledge, and skills so that the overall faculty and staff in a
certain school can perform their duty and stronger enough to face their students
with dedication and motivation.

ACTIVITY:
Read the quote from the famous John Dewey then answer the following questions in the Analysis.
“When a school introduces and trains each child of society into membership within such a little
community, saturating him with the spirit of service and providing him with the instruments of
effective self-direction, we shall have the deepest and best guaranty of a larger society which is
worthy, lovely, and harmonious.”
- John Dewey
ANALYSIS
1. What is the function of schools according to John Dewey’s statement?
According to Dewey: “The school is to be a reflection of the larger society outside its walls,
in which life can be learn by living. But it is to be a purified, simplified and better balance
society.” Dewey considered the ideal school as an enlarged ideal home.
2. Who creates schools?
The school is the institution created by society with the purpose of training new members of
society (children) so that in their youth they can be positively integrated into society.
3. What is the relationship between schools and society?
the relationship between the school and society is that the school and society are
intimately related as the school performs the duties of the society. The school is a sub-
system of society and both influence each other. The curriculum, the aims of education,
reflects the needs and nature of the society. But according to John Dewey “ schools are
connected with life and a child’s experiences in school are “carried over” as schools are
part of society (‘“organic whole”), and not “a composite of isolated parts”
APPLICATION:
What does job-skills mismatch imply about the relevance of schools to present society?
Based on the article Above, jobs-skills mismatch its implication and relevance towards
schools and present society. It is said that for a society to function well, schools is an
institution created in the society to which education is evident. In order for the society to
succeed and achieved development, society must survive, must be stable and must be
convenient. This is achieved through education. Schools provide the career that may
advance and help the students able to honed themselves the skills, knowledge and instill
values that may attributes and understand how these match with the industry that exists in
the society. These are career options which helps build the society achieved its best
development thus this students who achieved career may know their function in the
society. As John Dewey believe that the school introduces and trains students to be part of
the organization and work in the service of the company or organization he/ she belongs
to. To which John Dewey said that if the school succeeds to do, he said that we able to
achieve the deepest and best guaranty of a larger society that is worthy, harmonious and
lovely
Are schools effective agents of socialization in preparing Filipino graduates for their job roles?
Education has been affecting society by socializing individuals. The presence of different
educational institutions and organizations that help develop human resources to make
graduates ready for their job roles based on their acquired skills, and capabilities as well as
the innate values in terms of their chosen field. Understanding the role in the society
prepares individual students for their future roles in the field of work. Socializing them to
the reality will greatly prepare them for future roles such as professional teachers,
businessman, entrepreneurs, spouse and or parent to their children.
ACTIVITY:
Choose any object around you to symbolize your care for someone. Keep that meaning to yourself.
Give that symbol to someone (family or friend).
Ask that someone for the meaning he/she gave to your symbol.
OBJECT: CELLPHONE
I ask him “ for you what is the symbol or meaning of cellphone” He said, “ for me cellphone is
very important to each and everyone because it connect us to our relatives, friends, family and love ones
even though they are far from us. Through cellphone we feel that they are with us. I care this things like
how I care someone that is important to me.”
ANALYSIS :
1. According to the song, what are connected?
According to the lyrics of the song, “the foot bone connected to the ankle bone, the ankle
bone connected to the leg bone, the leg bone connected to the knee bone, the knee bone
connected to the thigh bone, and the thigh bone connected to the hip bone” And “the back
bone connected to the neck bone, and the neck bone connected to the head bone” also “
the hand bone connected to the arm bone, and the arm bone connected to the shoulder
bone”. Based on the lyrics of this song Dem bone all parts of our body system are
connected. The bone are interconnected.
2. What do you expect if these bones are connected? Does malfunctioning to one bone affect the
other bone?
Yes. If one of the bone malfunction the other part of bone will be affected. If one part of the human
body does not function well, the whole body is affected. For instance, the hand bone have malfunction
then the arm bone and shoulder bone could be affected because these bone are connected.
3. In activity no. 2, was the meaning that you gave to your symbol the same with the meaning that
the receiver gave? If not, how did this affect to you? Do you feel you were misunderstood?
Yes. We are just the same meaning to the symbol that I gave to him which is the cellphone.
APPLICATION :
1. Take a look back at the purposes of schooling according to the functionalist theory
(Intellectual, Political, Economic, Social). Cite how schools at present are working on the
realization of 4 purposes as cited by the functionalists.
2. In line with the government’s austerity program, DepEd reiterates the following policies:
a. Graduation rites should be simple but meaningful to encourage civil rights, a sense of
community, and personal responsibility. While these rites mark a milestone in the life of the
learners, these should be conducted without excessive spending, extravagant attire or
extraordinary venue;
b. Moving up or Completion Ceremonies should be simple, involving only the learners, their
parents and the school; and
c. Non-academic subjects such as attendance to field trips, film showing, Junior-Senior
promenade, and other school events should not be imposed as requirements for graduation
or completion. (D.O. no 02, s. 2019)
Which of the weaknesses of the Filipino does this DepEd Order wish to help eliminate?
Explain.
For me, the weaknesses of the Filipino does the DepEd order wish to help eliminate is the
Extreme Personalism. DepEd assured that the graduation rites, Moving up or completion
should be simple which should be conducted without excessive spending, extravagant
attire or extraordinary venue but meaningful to encourage and mark a milestone in the life
of the learner. They make sure that the student will have equality and could attend even
what status in life they have either poor or rich.
3. In a post-observation conference, school head cites points for the teacher observed. It
happens that there are more points for improvement than positive points. Teacher concludes
that school head is biased against her.
Which Filipino weakness is revealed? What should be done?
The Filipino weakness revealed is extreme personalism. School head become biased to the
Teacher. It could be the school head might not know this teacher and it’s abilities.
4. The K to 10 Curriculum Guide for Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (EsP) and the Grade 11-12
Curriculum Guide for Philosophy of the Human Person and Personal Development show that
there is an intensive and purposive effort of the Philippine educational system to eliminate
the weaknesses of the Filipino character that is more substance than form. Which proofs can
you give?
Filipino character will not be “more form than substance” as described by Senator
Shahano’s report, Philippine schools have to intensify values education in the curriculum. In
fact, in response to this report, Values Education now Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao in K to
12 Curriculum, was introduced as separate subject in the basic education curriculum under
the Values Education Framework program of Dr. Lourdes Quisimbing, then Department of
Education, Culture, and Sports Secretary in 1988-1990. The Values Education Framework
was conceptualized in 1987. In 2002, the Basic Education Curriculum (Grade 1-6, and First-
Fourth Year High school) integrated values in all learning areas or subjects. Beginning with
the K to 12 Curriculum in 2013, Values Education was renamed Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao
(EsP) for Grades 1-10. In Senior High Curriculum (Grades 11-12), there is no course with the
title, Values Education or Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao but core courses such as
Introduction to the Philosophy of the Human Person and Personal Development, are in
essence, Values Education subjects themselves.

A. Below are the top 10 world issues from two sources. Compare them.
B. You are also given the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for the period 2015-2030.
After comparing the top 10 world issues, match the 17 SDGs with the 10 world issues to
determine if these top 10 world issues correspond to the 17 SDGs of 2015-2030. Use the table
for the comparison.
List 1 (Top 10 World Issues) List 2 (Top 10 World Issues 17 SDGs 2015-2030
ANALYSIS
Are the current global issues in both lists similar?
Yes, They are almost similar but not all. There are some global issues on list 1 that are not
on list 2.
Are the current global issues ranked similarly?
No. The current Global issues and world issues are ranked differently.
Do these top ten global issues correspond to the 17 SDGs 2015-2030?
Yes. For me, based of what I observed almost on the list written in the top ten current
global issues correspond to the 17 SDGs 2015-2030, but there are also some issues that do
not correspond.
APPLICATION :
1. Based on the top ten global issues and the 17 SDGs, choose one global issue/SDG and give
suggestions on what schools must do to address the issue.
From the cited ten global issues I chose pollution and the sustainable development goals
for it is to protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems,
sustainably management forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land
degradation and halt biodiversity loss. The school can help us address pollution. Teaching
the youth to protect and care for our environment. Educating them with the right
educative programs, measures, and tools, the school managements can also sow the seeds
of responsible living in the minds of young children.
2. Go over the K to 12 Curriculum Guide. Find out where these global issues and SDGs are
integrated. If you find one or more not integrated in the K to 12 Curriculum, identify points of
integrations in the curriculum.
Global Issue/ SDG In what subject and topic can it be integrated?
ANALYSIS :
Based on your list, is there real partnership between school and community? Or do you find
one party (like school) more favored because it gets more help than the other? Defend your
answer.
Yes, there are real relationship between the school and community and by helping each
other they both benefit from it.
APPLICATION :
1. Illustrate with a cartoon or a diagram the partnership between schools and community
(NASA CP KO AN ANSWER)
2. Develop a tool to evaluate the extent and quality of school and community partnership.
Community sources
Sufficient staff
Sufficient resources
Available/relevant partners

3. Pretend you are an Instructor/ Professor in this professional course, The Teacher and the
Community, School Culture and Organizational Leadership. Your lesson has this learning
outcome: To explain the sociological and legal bases of school and community partnership.
How will you proceed? Deliver your lecture.
Explain first what is sociological and legal bases what it’s important and uses by using technology
such as power point presentation or a video.
Discuss what the school can gives to the community and what community can give to the school.
Discuss the legal bases why these two needed to be enacted and needed to be aligned.
4. School and community partnership enhances sense of ownership and sense of belonging. What do
these mean? How will these impact on school and communities?
In my own understanding about the school and community partnership enhances sense of ownership
and sense of belonging is that school can’t stand alone and so community helps the school to be
fulfilled. The school provided what the community needs and that is to produce graduates,
professionals and the community provided the school what it’s needed and that is the internet,
technology and etc. A school is part of the community.
ANALYSIS :
Based on your observation, do all teachers embody the traits expected of professional
teachers? Why do you say so?
Based on my observation, not all teachers embody the traits expected of professional
teachers. Why? Because some teachers didn’t act as professionals sometimes because of
their behavior. They often become unprofessional because they will have a
girlfriend/boyfriend relationship to their students and they also didn’t follow the teacher
code of ethics. But, also lot of teacher embody the traits expected of professional teacher
especially if they act as true professional, they follow everything like the teacher code of
ethics, they cooperate with the community, they meet the needs of the students and they
love their profession. As professional teacher, you are the facilitator, a community leader
and you are one of the Important people in the community.
APPLICATION :
1. Here is what one Dean of a College of Education told her freshmen teacher education students in
her Welcome Address on Orientation Day:
“Believing that you don't learn everything in the classroom, the College of Education, which will be
your home for four years has prepared a menu of annual co-curricular activities for you. All of these
are meant to help you become the true professional teacher that this College and University have
envisioned you to become…
Based on the context of the dean’s welcome address, it stated here that through education
we have do more, learn more and have more. We have lot of things to do because of
education. Also, It has lot of opportunity here which will help us in preparing for the
profession that we have chosen.
2. The Bible says: "You are the salt of the earth. Bus if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made
salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You
are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and
put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the
same way, let your light shine before others, that they may See your good deeds and glorify your
father in heaven. (Matthew 5:13-16)
Based on this Chapter on the teacher as a community leader, how do these biblical passages apply to
the professional teacher?
This biblical passage means that all of us are made for a purpose as to why we exist and why we do
the things we doing right now. Every one of us are entitled to fulfill that purpose. Teachers in the
same way has a role to fit in. We became teachers not just by coincidence but we are destined to be
in this track. We often lose track because of the problem, challenges we are facing as an individual
but that’s not mean that we are about to stop but rather we stand firmly to what is solemnly is
important to us because if we let that problems to hinder us, then it just like we are letting ourselves
to doubt the things we ought to do. Remember that the teacher is the role models of the students,
colleagues, and the people around them. They are responsible for the future of their students and
they are the light of the community where they are working with where they prepare student to have
a bright future. So how they can be a role model and how they can inspires others if they didn’t trust
themselves. Yes, sometimes teachers commit mistake but it’s normal because nobody’s perfect.all
they have to do is whatever their mistakes is just make it right. Also as a teacher, we should continue
to do our best in everything, we may not see the outcome of our efforts in an instant but still we
should strive and be an inspiration to others. Let our light shines that even in the darkest hour of our
life we may see the hope and encouragement because we are a living evidence that nothing can
outcast us if we know our purpose in life.
3. "I don't hear what you are saying because who you are speaks louder than what you say".
How does this quote apply to the professional teacher as a community leader? Discuss.
I think, we are all familiar with this quotes. Our actions carry much more weight than words
in building a trust. It is easy for us to build a trust by speaking some words, however, it will
never create a long-lasting relationship than building a trust through action. So, action
really defines us. Teachers are leader so they have many roles to fit in that’s why they make
a goal. Action are huge requirements when committing to a goal but if we are passionate
enough to fulfill that goals then it could be seen in our actions. To say and to do something
are different because words can easily expressed but doing it is difficult. So as a teacher it
is good for us to make an action than to say a words.
4. A teacher is fully convinced that her religion is the only true religion, the only way to
salvation. As a result, she proselytes. Can her good intention of salvation for all justify her
proselyting? Why or Why not?
For me, No. Even though the teacher has a good intention in bringing out the faith of
his/her students. According to the code of ethics for professional teachers under Article - II-
The teacher and the state, section 5 states that “ A teacher shall not engage in the
promotion of any political, religious, or other partisan interest, and shall not, directly or
indirectly, solicit, require, collect, or receive any money or service, or any other valuable
materials from any person or entity for such purposes.” even though the teacher is fully
convinced that her religion is the only true religion, it is not advisable and it is out of her
reach to convert her students on the religion she believes because we all have different
religious beliefs. A teacher must not promote or denigrate any particular religion. A teacher
must not interjected personal views or advocate those of certain students. And a Teachers
must extremely sensitive to respect, and not interfere with, a student’s religious beliefs and
practices.
5. As a community leader, what will you do if you see something negative in the community
culture? Example.
As a leader of one community you have a power to control people in your community. For
me, if I see something negative in my community culture I will fix it immediately as soon as
possible.I will educate them for what is right and encourage them to do something good
and participate for what is good for all.
6. Your mayor has a teacher candidate for a teaching position. Your ranking is over. Your
mayor's candidate was not part of the ranking and is not a licensed teacher. As a professional
teacher, what would you do?
I believe that each of us has our own abilities and skills. So, if our mayor has a candidate for
teaching position and s/he was not part of the ranking and not a licensed teacher too. So,
For me I will do nothing. I think S/he must have a qualification, abilities and skills that I
don’t have that our mayor have seen. We should accept that there are things that we
cannot control. Perhaps it is not our time yet. I also believed that everything happened in
our life has god’s purpose. So, all I have to do is to try and find again for an another
opportunity.
APPLICATION:

L – listener. The good leader is a good listener
E – enthusiastic. A good leader must be enthusiastic
A – active. Members wants an active leader
D – democratic. Always cooperate with the member and allow them to get involved in
decision making
E – energetic. Leader should be energetic.
R – responsible. Good leader is responsible for his/her member. Also, leader is able and
willing to take responsibility for the task.
S – Servant. He is servant first before a leader.
2.You are assigned as a school head in a low-performing school. Students are poorly
motivated, parent and community are not very cooperative, and teacher have low morale. As
a leader, what should you do? Outline your steps.
( NASA CP AN ANSWER)
3. Two of your teachers are doing very well. Four strongly resist Continuing Professional
Development. Two are about to retire and are simply waiting to retire. To make your school
perform, As a school head, what moves will you take? Explain
As a school head, to make my school perform, first I will imposed adaptability for
introducing and sustaining change and innovation. As a 21st century teachers we are ought
to adapt for change and innovation to avoid feelings of disagreement and, in turn, avoid
lower job commitment. Since we have four teachers who are strongly resist continuing
professional development (CPD) and as their school head I will become a transformational
leader who will ought to deal with resistance to change to succeed. Actually, we can
consider that those four teachers are resistant to change, contented with the status quo
and a threat for school innovation. That is why to ensure that the innovation that I will
imposed and introduced will surely lead to make my school perform I will asked first the
support of my stakeholders. As I build a strong coalition of allies, I will serve first as an
example to enable other’s to willingly absorbed the change and innovation. Also, I should
be flexible and adapt an appropriate leadership style that would direct, coach, and support
them according to the situation they have under my leadership. Second, I will get my
teachers involved early and filly participate in decision making through the use of
consensus. I will set up network to reach out to as many people as possible. I will
encourage them to go out from their comfort zone and push them to their limit to develop
their potentials. One way to develop their fullest potential is to never stop learning. For
that, I will require them to participate for free in any educational conferences, workshops,
or attend online seminars. Participation in these types of event will make them a more
effective teacher. Instill to them that they should rely only on their own understanding but
instead make use of their time to improve their performance without being afraid of taking
risk. Participating in CPD is an essential to develop their new ideas or teaching strategies,
ways to improve their skills, or new information that will help their students to succeed.
This CPD will be a great way to start adapting change and innovation in teaching and
learning. Third, I will conduct a regular meeting that includes everybody from the top to
bottom of organizational chart to ensure that there will be no one who will left behind
toward this transformational process. In addition, I will ensure that the innovation is
understood by all.
