Philosophy of Education
“The art of teacher is the art of assisting discovery.” Growing up, my job choices for the
future ranged from being a princess to a detective. I never thought about being a teacher at all.
I’m so glad that the path I chose to follow in high school as lead to where I am now.
I personally want to become a teacher because I love to be around kids. I grew up an only
child, so I always felt lonely. Whenever I went to school, I felt like I had siblings with how close
I was with my friends. I also want to make sure that our future is in good hands. I want to be a
safe place for them; I want to watch them blossom. I didn’t think about being a teacher until my
junior year of high school. I was put into a new elective because everything else was filled. The
elective just so happened to be teaching and learning. The class was about learning how to be a
teacher, but she also taught us things we would need to know when we become adults. The
teacher, Ms. Rose, inspired me to go further with what I was learning in the class. My patience is
very high, and I know it is needed when working with children. My field observation made me
want to become a teacher even more. It did teach me that teachers always have more work to do
than they look like. It also taught me that they’ll always be trial and error when it comes to
teaching. Some things sound better in your head, than when they are done. I also learned that,
teachers are being taken advantage of. They do so much but receive very little for what they do.
The educational philosophy that fits me best is progressivism. I believe learning should
focus on the whole child. Though we are all learning along the way, students do the most. They

should be understanding what is being given to them. All kinds of learning should be
incorporated as well due to the different kind of learners we’ll encounter. All nine types of
intelligence should be targeted in each course. My knowledge of historical events will help me so
much in my future classroom. I will make sure that my students will always be treated all the
same. Favorites will not be played. I will make sure that I can teach each student to my fullest
ability. There has been a bunch of new articles of students assaulting their teachers. I hope that
I’m a good enough teacher, where my students don’t have any thought of doing anything harmful
towards me. The teacher protection act of 2001 protects teachers from liability. There are not a
lot of laws in America that protect teachers, unlike in Japan. In Japan, they actually value their
teachers. The teachers in Japan are paid higher than other public employees due to their Article
13.
I’d like to implement STEM into my lesson plans. It’ll help with the students when it
comes to their future jobs. A lot of technology is being used nowadays. They should know how
to work with their hands and on a computer. Critical thinking should be used as well! I want to
do a lot of hands on work with my students. I feel like it makes learning more enjoyable. When it
straining to the eyes. Using paper for assessments causes for less distraction and cheating, since
they don’t have the resources to google to answer. I want to make sure that my students know
that everyone comes from a different background. I want them to be open about learning/trying
something new. Every now and then, I’d like to incorporate a lesson about different cultures
around the world. I want them to be more aware and open minded about other human beings.
To move forward in this career I need to become more comfortable with teaching in front
a class. I also need to find a better way to discipline kids when they’re in my possession. Having

those two traits will help me a lot when I start student teaching. In order to reach my goals, I will
continue to surround myself with children. I currently work at a preschool called Creative Kids
and I love it. Though I’m just a breaker, I get the opportunity to teach and assist classes
sometimes. I’d also like to keep babysitting. Even though it has nothing to do with teaching, I
can try out lessons, different ways of discipline, and just be around kids. Education wise, I still
have a long ways to go. I have to get my associates degree still and then transfer to Nevada state.
I still have a long ways to go with my teacher career. So far, I’m enjoying going to school
for elementary education. I’m learning more about the behind the scenes of being a teacher,
which my field observations help a lot with. I’m excited to see what the educational world has in
