13th European Postgraduate Course in Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Medicine
University Children’s Hospital Bern; Thursday – Saturday March 14 – 16, 2019
Welcome address
Welcome to Bern and great to see you at the 13th European Postgraduate Course
in Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Medicine, which follows a significant
number of previous courses organized by Prof. Jürg Pfenniger and PD Bendicht
Wagner on our campus.
In 2019 we touch again on different and important topics in our field of practice –
from the neonatal to the adolescent patient. The international course faculty, a fine
mixture of speakers from different parts of the world, will be complemented by a
number of short and interesting cases presented by physicians from our local
University Children’s Hospital and perspectives from our colleagues in the adult
intensive care medicine setting.
We have one industry sponsored symposium (Berlin Heart GmbH, Berlin, Germany
and Mussler Medical Supply, Lausanne, Switzerland) which will be held on Friday
evening (a light dinner will be served).
Please fill out the evaluation forms – and it would be very helpful if you could
provide topics or speakers for future courses. We would be very pleased to see you
again in 2021 (mark your calendar: April 16 – 18, 2021).
Thank you again for coming, I hope you enjoy the lectures and discussions – and
with your active participation you will move the course to an even higher level.
Best,
Tilman Humpl

Bert Hennig, Bern, CH
Workshop Overview and Objectives
Bedside ultrasound is an emerging technology in pediatric acute care settings.
Learn how to acquire and interpret bedside ultrasound images in procedural and
non-procedural applications. Lectures provided by international multi-discipline
pediatric specialists will describe bedside ultrasound techniques and highlight
relevant literature supporting applications in practice. Hands-on stations will
allow learners the opportunity to practice skills to implement at the bedside in
the care of critically ill neonates and children.
