Rizal portrayed in general, a brave man of his word, was never afraid the consequences he may
suffer because of his writings that are against in friars and also to Spaniards. His goal was to free
the Philippines from the unjust government of Spanish colony. Dr Rizal was a patriot and a
martyr. He consecrated his God-given talent, and even sacrificed his own life, for redemption
and welfare of his people. Verily, a man of heroism and versatility appears but once in the
history of any nation.
Rizal assaulted by her classmates in Binan because he didn’t communicate using words of
Spaniards in the movie it’s not well informed. Then when her mother arrested in their house in
Calamba he didn’t see it because he studying at Manila but according to the movie he see it.
*Strength(s)
One of Dr Jose Rizal strength was his love for his country. He helped the people of the
Philippines by making things easier for them and fighting against inequality.
*Weakness(s)
His weaknesses were his family and woman he loved, and the other one was his deep religious
views.
*Your Insights and Reactions:
The movie the life story of Jose Rizal, the National hero of the Philippines. It covered his life
from his childhood to his execution at the hands of Spanish forces occupying the Philippines in
the late 19th century. We are also thrown into the world of Rizal novels (filmed black and white),
so we get a glimpse of how he view Filipino society under the Spanish heal. The film also
through a series of flashback showing Rizal as a genius, a writer, a doctor, an artist, a lover, a
friend, a brother and a son, thus giving a rich texture of Rizal’s character. The movie introduced
us to the life of subjugation of Filipino people under the rule of Spanish friars: From the
execution of the three Filipino priests in 1872 for alleged of subversion to the harsh and unequal
treatment of the Filipino. I also commend the film for his bravery in showing the evil tyranny of
the Catholic nation that is like butchering a sacred cow but alas. This is by far the best Filipino
movie that I have been so far. I would argue anyone watching this like movies, to either rent or
buy.
II. Director Mike De Leon
The film showed how the friars mistreat Filipino women, how they beat children and students
being disciplined and how they drag Filipino children and students when being punished. In the
film, he also narrated how he put himself as a character, Crisostomo, Ibarra and Ilias, in his
novels because what like Ibarra portrays in the novels, he also wants revolution. When his novel
was published, he was also criticized by friend for it’s dangerous content but Jose Rizal just
smiled to him.
When I watched the Bayaning 3rd World I can’t understand the issue of the letter which is “I
retract with all my heart whatever in my words, writings, publications and conduct has been
contrary to the character as son of the Catholic Church. I believed and I confess whatever she
teaches and I submit to whatever she demand no one can assured if this letter was true or not.
Is Dr Jose Rizal deserving of his title and the honored of being a national hero? Though we may
know that he died for his beliefs, taking a painful death with courage and strength, the film also
presents that there is more to learn about his national hero: his everyday life, the evolution of his
belief system, and his humanity and the way he lived remain in question. If only we had the
documents to prove it.
*Strength(s)
The script are good it have a deep and deep words like the movie of Cesar Montano and Albert
Martinez.
*Weakness(s)
The quality of the movie wasn’t good, starting of the movie it’s blurred. And also the film was
lack of documents.
When I heard the title “Bayaning Third World” I was intrigued. I was excited to watch it. Then
the viewing they came. The movie started with several questions: Was the reason why Rizal did
not approved of the revolution was because he was the one who started it? Was he holding a
rosary in his right hand when he has gunned down? Was the retraction letter of Rizal genuine or
fake?
In the movie Bayaning Third World Dona Lulay and Paciano believed that Rizal did not retract
because it was inconsistent to what he believed in. I knew this was an insufficient reason, but
both of them close to Rizal and I assumed they already knew him very well then. And what they
said really made sense-Rizal went abroad (away from his family). Wrote a lot of nationalistic
poems, essays and novels, joined several groups, sacrifice his love life many times - all for main
goal: to give justice and equality for the Filipinos. Retraction was against Rizal’s beliefs and
based on many years of struggles to liberate the Philippines, to retract seemed to be last thing
that he would do.
When it comes to Religion Rizal had not been a good Catholic became he did not believe the
practices of the Church, but thus didn’t mean that he was a good servant of God. He loved God.
It’s just that he had own way of showing it. His letter to the Malolos was the proof. There he said
that uttering memorized prayers, singing religious songs, and doing ritual were nothing when not
done with all you heart. So if Rizal really loved God, why was there a need to retract, right? The
friars were not God. No one really knows about the truth. But whatever it is \, it will not make Dr
Jose Rizal less of a hero, because through his life, works and writings without any doubt, he
deserved to be our national heroes.

Rizal sa Dapitan
“Simple yet inspiring” is the best word that can describe the life of Rizal in Dapitan. It is simple
in a way that he lives like an ordinary people and inspiring. He lived in a commandant’s house
after winning the second prize in the Manila lottery and also for his savings being a merchant
and farmer, he bought a land. He built houses made of bamboo, wood and also nipa with
different shapes. There he built an school, a hospital and a water supply system.
The one mistaken that I’ve observed in the film of Rizal sa Dapitan, Rizal go to Cuba, but he
didn’t reached to his path because friars arrested him. But based on the story of Rizal, Rizal
arrested in Dapitan.
And also when he sent insects, frogs and snake to Europe then the payment was a Scientific
books and surgical instrument it’s not well informed.
*Strength(s)
The script was so excellence, Rizal used deep words like a poet, that what we can call
‘matalinghaga” and its showed us how intelligent Rizal was.
*Weakness(s)
The movie was lacked of music to add more emotions into every scene. For example in the scene
when Josephine Bracken’s baby was being miscarried, there should have been music with an
emotion of fear or fright. In the scene when Rizal was burying his son the baby, there should
have been sad music. Then there were no subtitles. The picture quality that was not good and
also the cutting of the scenes was so confusing. For example, Rizal was talking to Father
Sanchez then it abruptly switched to the scene when they were having some coffe.
Rizal sa Dapitan was good, the choice of characters was also good, but there should be
improvements in the script, cinematography and music. I think the highlights of Rizal life was
not just only when he was in Dapitan.
Rizal has contributed a lot for our freedom remains in our hearts even though he lost his precious
child due to his lack of control to himself. As Rizal was on Dapitan he was able to show the
depicting of what life a hero is. By these many reasons, we can’t deny that Rizal was truly loved
by all Dapitenos. As you can see when Rizal left in Dapitan, all of his students, their parents and
also ordinary people together with aband said their last goodbyes. But Rizal sa Dapitan is not
really a must watch movie, but as a history student or as person who wants to discover deeper
who Rizal really is, or know more about Philippine history, there’s no harm to give it a try. If
someone ask me to recommend a good Rizal film, I will say it is Jose Rizal, starring Cesar
Montano.
