According to Piaget, cognitive development occurs from two processes: adaptation and
equilibrium.
Adaptation involves the child's changing to meet situational demands. Adaptation involves two
sub‐processes: assimilation and accommodation
. Assimilation is the application of previous concepts to new concepts. An example is the child
who refers to a whale as a “fish.”
Accommodation is the altering of previous concepts in the face of new information. An
example is the child who discovers that some creatures living in the ocean are not fish, and then
correctly refers to a whale as a “mammal.”
Equilibrium is the search for “balance” between self and the world, and involves the matching
of the child's adaptive functioning to situational demands. Equilibrium keeps the infant moving
along the developmental pathway, allowing him or her to make increasingly effective
adaptations.

• Age,
• Marital Status,
• Sex, and
• Year teaching experience of the public school teachers from grade
1-3 in La Trinidad and Libertad Central Elementary School, Division
of Butuan City.
• What are the benefits in teaching/using mother tongue as a medium of
instruction?
• What are the challenges of using the mother tongue as a medium of instruction?
• How does the teacher cope with the use of mother tongue as a medium of
instruction?

Our study focuses on Teachers’ Usage of Mother Tongue as a Medium of
Instruction of public school teachers at La Trinidad Central Elementary
School and Libertad Central Elementary School, Division of Butuan City.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY: (SHERLYN) I’m Sherlyn
For the significance of the study will be the
DepEd: to monitor and supervise the teachers on using mother tongue as a medium of
instruction.
School: to build a safe and motivational learning environment.
Teachers: utilize positive reinforcement learning to help to students learn.
Students: expand their knowledge and opportunities for learning in Mother tongue.
And this study also help for the Future Researchers: to improve and develop new
phenomena to their research.

METHODOLOGY
Research design: ( Jeziel) This study will utilize as categorical research design or
Qualitative research design this method will The researchers seek to find the status of
use of Teachers’ Usage Mother Tongue as a medium of Instruction in public
elementary school teachers, Division Butuan City. And factors that influence practice in
public elementary teachers in La Trinidad Elementary School and Libertad Central
Elementary School Division, of Butuan City.
Sampling: ( Aive) For the sampling are the Grade 1 to Grade 3 teachers’ in La
Trinidad Central Elementary School are 5 respondents and Libertad Central Elementary
School there are 25 respondents the total of 30 respondents are chosen from Public
Elementary School in Division of Butuan City.
Research Instrument( Emilda) for The research instrument the study use the survey
questionnaires made by the researchers for the respondents to answer and will use the
face to face interview to gather some details or information. The survey questionnaires
will be administer by the researchers. The questionnaire will determines the Teachers
Usage Mother-Tongue as a medium of instruction for public teachers in La Trinidad
Central Elementary School and Libertad Central Elementary school, Division of Butuan
City.
Scoring Procedure ( Jojelyn) this represent the scale from 4 is the highest or higly
proficient, 3-proficient, 2,basic and 1 is below basic. This scoring procedure has
different verbal interpretation where scale 4 Teachers’ use Mother Tongue of medium of
instruction at all times, 3 Teachers’ often use Mother Tongue as a medium of
instruction, 2 Teachers’ use Mother Tongue mix with other language and 1 Teachers’
never use Mother Tongue as a medium of Instruction.
Statistical Treatment ( Sherlyn) we use Descriptive statistic that will describe the
demographic profile of the teachers in terms of age,sex, years teaching experience,
perception in the usage of mother tongue as a medium of instruction. Finding the
frequency of the response of the respondents. We use this to procedure in able us to
know their opinions and comments that will help us, and guide us this study.
