Analysis
(hello, hehe i-edit nalang yung ditto na part sa powerpoint, like i one or two words lang sya tas
ito na yung basahin sa explanation :D matakot ako mag edit kay baka masira hehe thank you!)
The transition from Spanish colonial period to the American occupation period demonstrated
different strands of changes and shifts in culture, society, and politics.
The selected cartoons illustrate not only the opinion of certain media outfits about the
Philippine society during the American period but also paint a broad image of society and
politics under United States.
Lastly, the cartoons also illustrated the conditions of poor Filipinos in the Philippines now
governed by the United States. From the looks of it, nothing much has changed
We could conclude or we could say that the result of the transition from the Spanish culture
tothe American culture has brought so much changes in terms of our culture, politics and
society.
the selected cartoons really pictured the society, culture and politics under the American
occupation period. It really depicts what is really happening and the problems that really needs
to be addressed.
The main concept in producing such caricature was for them to be able to relay or convey the

Relevance
In the Philippines, the presence of political cartoons has been seen as early as the publication of
Kalayaan and La Solidaridad. Nepomuceno (2012) claimed that commentaries in newspapers are
valid historical instruments, given that these works are corroborated by official documents.
Furthermore, commentaries, through the sections of the editorial pages, are useful in seeking to
see the opinions and views of people on policies which are also rooted on the opinions and
views of officials in government.
Accounts pointed that the Philippine press has had a love-hate relationship with political
cartoons as only in 1985 has there been a published book on Philippine cartoons. The book
of McCoy and Roces (1986) was the first one to legitimize cartoons as sources of Filipino
thoughts and views. Although the book only covered the period of early American through
the commonwealth, it reflected on two cartoon themes: anti-American sentiments and the
condemnation of the ruling class.
The appeal of cartoons has increased over time as people's sensitivities are caught instantly
through imagery. Political cartoons act as primers for delving into the time's dominant
viewpoints. One beneficial impact of political cartoons is that they become a depiction of our
country's current situation, allowing us to see the problem.
Future generations will be able to have a glimpse of the past Philippine society through these
cartoons. Also, it also serves as a study and reference tool for further generations.
Through the use of political cartoons, people get to visualize politics and appreciate the
representations which are within their worldview. clarify Historical Information Represent the
feelings of the people. Way to discuss political and social issues using art
