The Classification of Movie Goers
Most people love to go to the movies. The movies are an escape into a fantasy world; a way
to leave behind the troubles of life and experience a totally different one. However,
everyone has a preference on what kind of movie is best. Romance, horror, action and
comedy are the four main movie types. The kind of movie that someone sees can give clues
as to what kind of person they are and what interests them most. People who prefer horror
films obiously like to be grossed out or like to be frightened. The horror fans usually tend to
enjoy suspense and anxiety. One might suspect these people love to go on frightening roller
coaster rides or do other thinfs that would cause suspense and anxiousness. People of this
nature might also enjoy things that most people would not, considering the amount of gore
produced in many horror films. For example, some people watch surgeries purely for fun.
While others, like myself, would become sick even thinking about cutting someone open.
Horror films are infact unsetting films deisnged to frighten and panic, cause dread and
alarm, and invoke our worst hidden fears while doing it in a shocling yet entertaining way.
People who preferably enjoy these kind movies are usually intrigured by such things as
nightmares, vampire, werewolves etc. Sometime its even the simple thrill of our
vulneravilty, alienation, and cliques such as “the terror unknown that draw these people to
the horror genre. Some people, however, enjoy the lighthearted, sentimental genre of
romance. Romance films are love stores, or affiars of the heart that center on passion,
emotion, and romantic involvement of the main characters. Romance films make the love
story or the search for love the main plot.

Usually people who prefer this genre tend to enjoy the idea of parternership or the ever so
common love at first sight, forbidden love, and maybe even spiritual love. One could
conclude that these people enjoy happy endings. Since movies are meant to primarily
entertain, everyone likes to leave the theatre with a happy feeling. Knwoing that the guy got
the girl and that they have something some special does just that for the romance lovers.
Occasionaly, those who do not have real romance in their own lives, turn to a romantic
movie to help them escape into a happy-ever-after kind of world that keeps them thinking
of what can become for them. Action films are also amougsnt one of the four main genres of
film. Audiences tend to sit on the egde of their seats when it comes to this genre. Many
people simply enjoy the intense thrill and excitement that comes with watching an action
movie. The type of people who are usually drawn to this genre are those who feel like they
need more excitement in their lives. Not only do these movies bring about spine-chilling
action towards the audiences, they also help us navigate out of out colorless world and gives
us a hero to idolize. Sometime people simply watch these movies to enjoy the feeling of an
aadrenaline rush of something fictional. Infact these types of viewers are not paying for
realism when it comes to action films but rather to enjoy something totally unrealistic that
adds a more fantasic view and brings about pure awe and mesmerization. Many people also
enjoy comedy films. Comedy has one primary goal: to elicit laughter from the audience.
Comedies are mostly light-heaarted dramas made to amuse and entertain the audience. It is
not abnormal for people who, lets say, had a bad day at work, to turn on a comedy and try to
forget about what they were so dostruaght over. People who watch comeides might also
take pride in making others laugh or just relaxis laid back people tend to find themselves in
the comedy department when it comes movies.
