Objectives:
At the end of this module, you are expected to:
1. Recognize the achievements and expertise of Philippines National Artists
and Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan (GAMABA) Awardees and their
influence to the arts and culture through a visual presentation.
2. Explore the prior socio-cultural influences of the Philippines National Artists
and GAMABA Awardees and how these have been reflected in their work
and have inspired contemporary art scene through a photo journal notebook
(CAR11/12CAP-0c -e-6).
3. Interpret and relate the significance of art forms from the regions through a
creative performance (CAR11/12CAP-0c -e-8)  Replicate the work of
your preferred Philippines National Artist/s and GAMABA Awardee/s
though an innovative output/collage (CAR11/12CAP-0c -e-7).
4. Evaluate contemporary art forms from the different regions inspired from
the National Artists and GAMABA Awardees’ works through a critique
paper.

ACTIVITY NO 1.
PRETEST
Directions: Below are descriptions of National Artists. Read each description and choose the
right person described. Please use one-half lengthwise and take the 15- item Pre-test. Do not
worry about your score. This test is done only to know your prior knowledge of the topic so
that you may be helped well. Choose the letter of your answer from the box and write it on

expression and form that elevated Filipino aesthetic vision to new heights of sophisticated
simplicity.
ESSAY If you’re given the chance to build a structure, whether a house or a building, how are you
going to build it? What materials will you use and who among the National Artists in Architecture will
you get inspiration from?
ANSWER:
In our lifetime, we have all imagined a solidly built dream house where we can be at ease and at the same time,
establish a comfortable lifestyle. Although it’s exciting and of course, easy to describe our dream home, making
it a reality can be a complicated process.
Building a house from scratch takes time and it doesn’t just come from the simplest idea. It’s not just about
choosing between asphalt shingle and wood shake for your roof or settling for the best paint colors, then you’re
done. The truth is, there are numerous factors to consider or details to look into before you take the plunge.
From the design plan and construction process down to the outcome, everything should be well-thought out. So
in order to help you avoid the hassle of delays, conflicts, and costly fixes, we have listed down some important
things that every homeowner should consider before building their dream house:

I like,Juan F. Nakpil, the architect, teacher, and civic leader, is a pioneer and innovator in
Philippine architecture. He has shared his outstanding talents and services in creating
edifices, both private and public, that are conceptually well-designed and conscientiously
executed. While mindful of contemporary design, Nakpil has always advocated a distinctive
architecture reflective of Philippine traditions and culture.
ACTIVITY NO 2.
Walk around and look at the house or building structures in your neighborhood or a
public space (like plaza, church or town hall) and take as many pictures of your favorite
structures.

challenge facing humanity today, and there are no easy solutions. A key part of the
puzzle, though, lies right at the heart of the world’s urban areas: its public spaces.

structure that you like.
2. List down the materials you will use. Identify and/or execute desired design
3. Cite the National Artist for Architecture whom you get inspiration from and
give a three-five sentences explanation. Answers may vary.
4. Submit your output via messenger or you can submit it directly to your subject
teacher.
ANSWER;
Quiapo Church
The church houses a large dark life-sized
sculpture of Christ bearing the cross --
called the "Black Nazarene" (or, in Spanish,
"Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno de Quiapo"
and in Tagalog as "Poong Itim na
Nazareno").
This sculpture was carved in Mexico in the

early 1600s, was brought out to the
Philippines from Mexico by Spanish galleon
and was finally placed in the Quiapo Church in the late 1700s. It is said by the
faithful to have miraculous powers.
On Fridays thousands of Catholic devotees may be seen inside the church edging
forward on their knees towards the crucifix, praying for a favor, for a miracle or for
forgiveness.
Around the church is an outdoor market catering to all sorts of needs from the
spiritual to the mundane – everything from fortune telling, faith healing, balloons,
flowers, candles, incense, lotions, oils, figurines, icons, statuettes, talismans, rosaries,
and herbal products, to bargains handicrafts and very cheap (and often pirated)
DVDs, CDs, software, jewelery, and electronics.
The whole scene is one in which the religiosity of the Filipinos can be seen.
