Curriculum Development Module 8

1. The document discusses questions about technology, curriculum implementation, e-curriculum, and effective use of instructional media and technology in lesson delivery. 2. It defines technology, describes its role in curriculum implementation, and provides examples of different types of instructional media. 3. An e-curriculum refers to computer-based learning resources and uses of instructional technology. Curriculum Development Module 8

Questions for research to be answered during the virtual discussion on Sunday Oct. 17, 2021

1. What is technology?

The application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry.

“advances in computer technology”

 Machinery and equipment developed from the application of scientific knowledge.

“it will reduce the industry’s ability to spend money on new technology”

 The branch of knowledge dealing with engineering or applied sciences.

 Technology is the sum of any techniques, skills, methods, and processes used in the production
of goods or services or in the accomplishment of objectives, such as scientific investigation.

2. What is the role of technology in curriculum implementation?

1.  In delivering the curriculum the role of technology is very important.  Right at the planning phase
of any instruction, aside from formulating the objectives and among other considerations, there is a
need to identify what instructional media are to be utilized in the implementation. THE ROLE OF
TECHNOLOGY IN DELIVERING CURRICULUM

2. SYSTEMATIC APPROACH TO INSTRUCTIONAL PLANNING

3. DEFINE OBJECTIVE S Plan instructional activities Identify and assess instructional media technology
Choose an instructional media Revise instruction Assess instruction Implement instruction

4. TYPES OF INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA/TECHNOLOGY

5.  Real objects  Models  Field trips  Kits  Printed materials  Visuals  Visual boards  Audio
materials  Overhead transparencies  Opaque projection  Slides  Filmstrips  Films  Video, VCD,
DVD  Computer / multimedia presentations NON PROJECTED MEDIA PROJECTED MEDIA

6. • Visual elements ( pictures, illustrations, graphics ): 1.Lettering style or font---consistency and

harmony 2.Number of lettering style---no more than 2 in a static display (chart, bulletin board ) 3.Use of
capitals---short titles or headlines should be no more than 6 words 4.Lettering colors---easy to see and
read. Use of contrast is good for emphasis 5.Lettering size---good visibility even for students at the back
of the classroom

7. 6. Spacing between letters---equal and even spacing 7. Spacing between lines---not too close as to
blur at a distance 8. Number of lines---No more than 8 lines of text in each transparency/slide 9.
Appeal---unusual/catchy, two dimensional, interactive ( use of everlays or movable flaps ) 10. Use of
directionals---devices ( arrows, bold letters, bullets, contrasting color and size, special placement of an
item ).

3. What is an e- curriculum?

Electronic curriculum, or E-curriculum, refers to computer-based learning including educational

materials available on CD or DVD, online courses, electronic mechanisms to search the
literature, email, and various applications of instructional technology including providing laptops
to students, multimedia projection systems, and Internet-compatible classrooms

4. Describe the framework of an e- curriculum.

As part of any system wide initiative, a curriculum framework is needed to pair defined content
standards with digital curriculum resources that are aligned to the content learning goals.

A curriculum framework guides both how and when technology is used for learning. It ensures that
technology is applied:

 In ways that address real-world skills

 To learn the right skills at the right times for the right reasons.
 To meet specific learning objectives

Technology is all too often applied as an add-on to existing curriculum. To maximize its potential
benefits — such as the development of higher-order thinking skills — educators must weave it into the
curriculum in such a way that the tool matches the desired learning outcome. A curriculum framework
bridges the gap between overall curriculum goals and the use of technology for learning and teaching.

5. What are the two forms of instructional media or technology in the delivery of the lesson to
help achieve the learning objectives? Give examples of each form.
Media and learning
 Instructional Media encompasses all the materials and physical means an instructor might use
to implement instruction and facilitate students’ achievement of instructional objectives.
 Examples of instructional media include traditional means of delivering instruction (chalkboards,
textbooks, overhead projectors, and teachers), mass media used for education (newspapers,
movies, radio, and television), and the newer “electronic” instructional media (computers,
interactive video, and multimedia systems
o The definition of learning is the process or experience of gaining knowledge or skill. An
example of learning is a student understanding and remembering what they’ve been
taught. … Knowledge or skill gained through schooling or study.
6. What are the factors in technology or media selection?

Factors in technology selection

The type of technology to be applied in providing a community water supply depends on various factors:

1. Available funds from government, the community or donors;

2. Physical conditions, quantity of water and energy, soil conditions;

3. Organizational capacity (technical abilities) of the community.

7. What are the primary roles of technology or media in delivering the school curriculum?

With the incorporation of technology into schools, the main purpose is to change how teachers and
students gather, access, analyze, present and transmit information. This can democratize information in
classrooms as well as help differentiate instruction, particularly for students with special needs.

8. What are the criteria in a visual material or presentation like PowerPoint or slide presentation to
make it effective as a tool in delivering a lesson?

The presentation should have a clear purpose and central idea. The presentation should have an
identifiable introduction, body, and conclusion. Main ideas should be supported. The presentation
should have an identifiable organization.

9. Make a self-reflection on the importance of technology in achieving the learning objectives of

the prepared curriculum plan.

My reflection about the importance of technology in achieving the learning objectives of the prepared
curriculum plan is that technology can play a traditional role or in a constructivist way as partners in the
learning process. … It makes the learner gather, think, analyze, synthesize information and construct
meaning with what technology presents. It serves as a medium in representing what the learner knows
and what he/she is learning. Technology brings skills, knowledge, process, technique, and tools together
for solving problems of human beings, making their life secure and easier. Why technology is important
today is because technology is driving the world and making the world better.
