We would like to thank the participants of our study, and the school. We
would also like to thank our professor for guiding us in making this research
paper.

ABSTRACT:

Factoring the pros and cons in the lifestyle engaged by the senior high
school students of IMDII to developing Eating disorder; through identifying their
mental health and the lifestyle they engages, opening the issue of mental health
and addressing the severity of unhealthy lifestyles of the SHS students.

INTRODUCTION:
Over the years, the development of the society and technology gives us
more and more ways to enjoy life and thus, the ‘curious minds’ of teenagers
whose undergoing the process of adolenscents engages in a more and more
diversed lifestyle as they grew curious to the things around them. Susan Engle,
Author of The Hungry Mind: The Origins of Curiousity in Childhood, defines
curiousity as “The urge to explain the unexpected”. The curiousity is a natural trait
of us humans and a good drive to have if you are a scientist, or an inventor. But
when you are a member of adolenscents and your drive of curiousity extends to
what state does the mind get when you’re high in drugs or how does it feel to
drink alchohol then that certainly is bad.
Based on study of The Science of Adolescent Risk-Taking: Workshop Report
(2011). the Adolescents are prone to be influenced by their environment and as
curiousity get a hold of them, they have this the drive to be fearless to try the
new.

The result of a research article of a survey written by Waris Qidwai,

Adolescent lifestyle and behavior: A Survey from a Developing Country; shows that
most of the lifestyle engaged by the adolescents are adopted to their
environment that mostly are leading to an unhealthy lifestyle, that could lead to
serve implications and one of those is eating disorder while there is no real and
direct cause of eating disorder; genes, environment and unhealthy lifestyle all
played a role in having eating disorder.

Based on the study conducted by the National alliance on the Mental illness
(NAMI) 1 out of 20 people will be affected with eating disorder at some point of
their lives, prone to this are adolescents especially senior highschool students
who are directly affeted by the trends.

This research study aims to determine the pros and cons in the lifestyle of
senior highschool students of IMDII, listing down and create a graphical
representation showing the factors that affects the mental health of the student
subjects and by making it as a reference, would then list down the pros and cons
in the lifestyle of the SHS students of IMDII and their affects to their health and if
would it cause eating disorder.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:

Senior high school level is the level where the adolescents is the most
sensitive and active as this is the stage where they would develop and adopt their
lifestyles and where they would metamorph from being young to being a young
adults. This is the stage they would be full of vigor and drive, eager to discover
and try new things out. That is why this is also the level where the number of
cases of eating disorder grows sharply.

Eating disorder is a serious medical illness marked by severe disturbance to

a person’s eating behaviours, prone to this are those stressed out people with
poor health defences like the senior high school students who are the bloodline of
our country, they are the future generation of professionals thus their health is
important and should be payed more attention to specially, now that online class
is the used platforms to teach students as based on the new finds on the survey
conducted by YouGov (March 25, 2020) and BestColleges, the stressed level of
the students increased dramatically as the COVID-19 hits the country. The
increase on the work load and the high demand of comprehenssion needed to
have just to understand the module takes toll on the students. External
distractions, pressure, coupled by their unhealthy lifestyle makes them more
vulnerable to eating disorder that affects not only physically but also
psychologically.

Conceptual Framework:

The 2 Variables are intererelated. The Independent Variable shows the

Profile of the respondents which could also be use as a gauge to check if he/she is
qualified or is in the research range. After checking if he/she is in range of the
study and is qualified to be a respondent then be given the questionaire and
collected then after. The data collected then be categorized to the general
categories which affected the lifestyles engaged by the students.

With the data collected in the Independent Variable, the dependent

variable then be made; Strictly adhering to the data collected.

METHODOLOGY

For the survey, the reserachers have used the Quantitative data gathering
method. Handing out questionaires to familiar students of IMDII as the state of
the education for the current curriculum is at conflict with the traditional Random
Sampling Method.
The survey was conducted with the safety in mind; Thus, throughout the
survey process the researcher and the subject does not have physical contact. The
questionaires was given to the subject to answer and was then retrieved for data
gathering.
The survey was conducted in the vacinity of Brgy. Sta elena, Brgy. Scions, and
Brgy. Tominobo. The participants being students of IMDII

All subjects are in the level of Senior High School with the age between 16-
21. Subjects are known to have typical lifestyle and are average to their age.

The reserchers have conducted 50 one on one suveys with the subjects in
their homes with the agreement of the guardians of the subjects. The time period
of data collection is 5 days. (March 15 – March 20).

The questions targeted for the questionaire are as followed:

1. What is the profile of the respondents.
 Age
 Gender
2. What is the Influence(s) that affects their lifestyle.
 Family/Friends
 Environment
 Personal Reasons
 Trends.

As the essence of the study is about Eating disorder, the survey focuses on the
external issues that affects the lifestyles of the students leading to having the
possibility of eating disorder.
STATISTICAL ANALYSIS

Data was collected and validated by the researchers on the day after. The
responses of the respondents then categorized to the variables to create a chart
representing the percentage of the overall answers of the respondents.

RESULT

A total of 56 individuals have been approached for this survey. The 6 has
been removed as they were out of the range of the study; therefore the survey
has 50 respondents who participated in the study. All participants have
completed answering their questionaires which were then used for the primary
analysis. Figure 1 details the persentage of the responses the respondents
provided.

With the result shown, the factors affecting the mental health of the students of
IMDII has been showned and marked. This factors which affected how they live
may must be attended and be addressed as these factors are already integrated
to the very basics in the lifestyle engagaed by the students. With their mental
health affected by these, the increase in eating disorder increasses as well.
