Activity 1

1.Why is Chemistry important in our everyday living ?

Answer: Because many of the changes you observed in the world around you are caused by chemical
reaction. Chemistry is very important because all matter is make made of chemicals so the importance of
chemistry is that it’s the study of everything.

Activity 2

1. What are five traditional areas of study in chemistry and give To example that could be taught in
each area.
Answers:
1. Organic chemistry- ex. Paper(ellulose) Gasoline (mixed hydrocarbons)
2. Inorganic chemistry- ex. Water, sodium chloride (salt)
3. Analytical chemistry -ex. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, gas chromatography
infrared spectroscopy
4. Physical chemistry- ex. Nitric acid eating through wood.
5. Biochemistry- ex. Protein, nucliec acid.

2. What are the other branches of chemistry and define each. 1.inorganic- study of elements and
properties
-preparation and application of compounds
2. organic chemistry- all aspects of carbon and it’s compound
3. Physical chemistry- The critic and mechanical aspect of chemical reactors
3. Biochemistry chemical changes and reaction occuring w/in living system .
4. Anlytical chemistry- study constituents and identification in chemical substances.
