The teacher proposes to solve this by having students analyze a sample text titled "The Importance of Studying English". The teacher would highlight the thesis, arguments, and reiteration structure and have students identify the social function of convincing the audience. Students would then identify true and false language features in a table to understand characteristics like conjunctions, tense, vocabulary.

THESIS The Importance of Studying English

There are so many languages to learn, but the most important language is
probably English. However, the reality remains that in this global era we cannot deny that
English is used a lot, not only at school but also at work and even business. So, in this text
I want to show you the importance of studying English based on my point of view. Why
do I say so?

First, you must know that English is the most widely spoken language in the world.
English is the rest of the world’s second language, most people in the world choose to
learn English as their second language. It is because that English helps you to
communicate with a lot of people in this world, for example if you meet tourists from non-
ARGUMENTS

English speaker such as China or Japan and they are asking for your help, they will
probably use English so that you can understand what they are talking about.

Second, it can help you to get a better job. These days companies are becoming
more international, and English is listed as an essential skill for more and more jobs. There
are some organizations that now conduct all their business in English no matter where in
the world they’re based. So, this can be the reason why you should learn English, so that
you can improve yourself and get a better job.

Third, English is also known as the language of the media. Most of the content or
blog in internet is written in English. Many of the world’s biggest news outlets, including
TV, newspapers, magazines are having English in it. Even some of your favorite music, TV
shows, and films are probably English-language or having an English subtitle in it.

From those arguments above, I can say that English is important to learn.

REITERATION/CLOSING

By applying the process, the students know how to identify the social function,
generic structure, and the language features from the analytical exposition text.
