Research Context
The topic of my research is ‘The role of culture in food: Bangladeshi young generations
perspective.’ The survey aimed at bringing the younger generations to understand the role of
culture in food. I have taken both quantitative and qualitative approaches, in which I used survey
questionnaires and interviews as data collection tools. Here for the qualitative method, I
conducted a survey using google forms with students from different educational institutions and
different age groups. After distributing the survey to various social media groups, individuals in
their inboxes and in my social timeline, a total of 75 students completed the survey
questionnaire. When preparing the survey questionnaire, I asked to answer each question and
also asked respondents to choose only one option for each survey question. And for the
qualitative part, I interviewed online via a live video-calling social networking platform. After
contacting 5 students, I managed to get them accepted for an interview. During the interview, I
asked the investigators 5 semi-structured questions about ‘The role of culture in food:
Bangladeshi young generations perspective.’

Qualitative data analysis

In the qualitative part, I collected interviewees. They shared their thoughts. The responses
to the interviews have been recorded and are presented below without any changes. These
interviews were conducted using the Google Meet online meeting platform on the current
pandemic situation. The identity of the interviewees is protected.

There were 5 questions for the participants. The questions are given below:
1. What is the role of culture in food?
2. Do the younger generations fully understand the role of culture in food?
3. Why it’s important for young generation to properly know about the food culture?
4. Is it possible to encourage the younger generation to know the role of food culture?
5. How much it’s important to save our food culture? Why?
Here participants are mentioned as ST1 means participant 1, ST2 means participant, ST3
means participant 3 and in this way all of the participant is mention respectively. Answers
of the participants:

ST1:
1. Food is a significant aspect of culture on a larger scale, and it also serves as an
expression of cultural identity. Immigrants bring their home country's cuisine with
them everywhere they go, and making traditional dishes is a method for them to
preserve their culture when they relocate.
2. The view of young people toward their traditional cuisine is becoming increasingly
significant in order to explore the potential of traditional food and create nutrition
knowledge. Fast food suppliers should target the younger demographic. Young
individuals are prone to change and have distinct appetite and fashion preferences. The
goal of this study is to examine young people's understanding of their rights.
3. It is very important for young generation to know about there food culture, this is
because is they know what their food culture is from a young age they can adapt to it
easily and understand the different culture.
4. It is possible and very important to encourage young generation about the role of food
because Young people's perceptions are crucial in improving nutritional education
among children and adolescents. Traditional food recipes are one element that can be
examined to see how well young people are aware of what they eat and drink.
Traditional foods are frequently cited as a paradigm for community responsibility.
5. It is very important to save our food culture this is because Food has a significant role
in cultural legacy and national identity. It has the ability to connect us to people and
places, bringing friends and families together, and eating habits, such as whether or not
you should eat everything on your plate, differ widely around the world.

ST2:
1. People eat different foods according to different cultures. Food culture can be
defined as such attitudes, beliefs and habits.
2. No. The younger generations are not understand the role of culture in food.\
3. The food culture important to properly know for younger generation. Because today's
younger generation don't understand food culture. Even they do not follow the food
culture
4. Yes. of course. It is possible to encourage the younger generation to know about role
of culture. They need to understand how important it is to adhere to the food culture.
5. It is very important to save our food culture. Because it is related to society. Culture
needs to continue in society.
ST3:
1. On a larger scale, food is an important part of culture. It also represents the culture of
a human being like which culture he or she belongs from.
2. No, I don’t think that the younger generation fully understand the role of culture in
food because the younger generation is eating different kinds of foods from different
culture and they are unable to recognize the food of their own culture because of the
modified food recipes.
3. It is important for the younger people to know about food culture because they are
going to represent their own culture to the world soon and there are going to identify
people from other cultures by their food items.
4. It is important for the younger people to know about food culture because they are
going to represent their own culture to the world soon and there are going to identify
people from other cultures by their food items.
5. Food is often used as a means of retaining their cultural identity So really important
to save our food culture. And if you ask why it is important then I will say food
culture is a complex mishmash of history, geography, climate and social values that
go into what food is served, when, where and by whom. It's an important way of
preserving and transmitting the culture as a whole.

ST4:
1. Food is important part of culture. It’s also aperates as an expression of cultural
identity. Immigrent’s bring the food of their countries with them wherever they go and
cook traditional food in a way of preserving their culture when they move to new
places.
2. No. Most of today’s young generation is not aware of food culture. Some of them
prefer fatty food and some prefer foreign food.
3. The current generation should gain knowledge about the role of food culture. Cause
one food is popular in one country. In any country vegetable or any country non-
vegetable. However, the role of food culture is the homeland in one of them. Therefor
every young generation should retain the food culture of their homeland.
4. Yes, it’s possible to encourage them. Usually, childhood is the time when a child
chooses tasty food. What he will eat at that time, he will keep the taste at that food
later. So, families should help them choose food culture and nutritious food from their
childhood. So that even when they come to the young generation, they give priority to
that food.
5. It’s important to save our food culture cause, food choices are influenced by many
factors including physical, social and psychological. In this study, the food preferences
of young people aged 9-15 years were investigated and the possible factors influencing
them were examined. Many young people tend to choose heigh fat and heigh-suger
product’s and often dislikes fresh food and fruits and vegetables. Especially with the
persistently heigh prevalence of heart disease within the province. Further, work has
suggested that young people are aware of current nutrition policies and the importance
of healthy eating.

ST5:
1. Culture plays an important role in food as it can represent a country or a religion.
2. Majority seem to not understand the role of culture in food as they do not seem to be
interested to know about it.
3. It is important as the culture also represents a country or a religion. One who does not
know about this can be labelled as "illiterate" about their own culture.
4. It is possible to encourage the younger generation about this topic.
5. It is extremely important to save our food culture as it is also a part of our identity
and plays a huge role in one's life.
