 Introduction :

A person’s behavior reflects its personality and impact on society whether it is


positive or negative. Positive behavior has a very profound impact on oneself and
on others but most important thing is to build this kind of behavior. The most
important factors that help us in this regard is our teachers and schools. A child
starts learning from his/her birth till death but there are many things that only can
be learn from an institute and teachers. Schools and teachers guide students in this
aspect and mold them.

Teachers are not restricted only to syllabus; they also help us to build character.
Teaching is a very noble profession that is imperative for nation building. Schools
play an equal and important role in character building of students as teachers.
Schools help to make up the group behavior and make students compatible in
groups.

 Contribution of Teachers in Molding Individual and Group Behavior

Teachers take the place of parents in schools; they guide and mold the character and
personality of the student. They influence the formative years of the students. A
good teacher coaxes and helps a student to understand his abilities and become a
better human being. Teachers have the opportunity to educate and mold the students
into the future leaders. A person with proper vision, experience, and an education
degree can enter the teaching profession. Teaching is a great responsibility. It has
an impact on the growth and well-being of the nation. An ideal teacher should be
impartial, disciplined and at all times to be courteous.
A teacher impacts on knowledge to young minds. The teacher should be a mentor,
guide, motivator and a source of inspiration to children. A teacher has a unique
way supporting students academics and social development throughout their
schooling level. The interaction bond between the teacher and student creates a
comfortable, safe and a secure learning environment.

Teachers play the following roles in shaping students future:

 Teachers help in nurturing students’ self-esteem: What a student believes


about himself is critical. Teachers act as guardians in helping students to be
confident.
 Teachers help in promoting self-determination: When students have
confidence in themselves, they are more likely to attain their goals in life
and succeed.
 Teachers create positivity in a student: When a teacher is approachable,
well focused and sensitive to students tend to do exceedingly well and can
participate freely in interactions.
 Teachers help in enhancing academic abilities: Teachers engage students
in academic learning. Teachers give challenging assignments, tests, and
evaluation that require student’s reflection.
 Teachers create curriculums that foster student’s development: Learning
institutions have friendly and educative curriculums for students. The
curriculums create a comprehensive and interactive learning environment
both in classroom and outside.
 Teachers help students understand their strength and weakness: By
actively engaging students; teachers can know and learn each student’s
strength and weaknesses.
 Teachers teach problem solving skills: Students at an early age are taught
how to apply problem solving skills. As they solve problems, decision –
making skills are developed as well.

Teachers are great leaders who support students and school’s success. Teachers
play a major role in students over all development and need to be recognized as
positive agents of educational change in every country. Teacher can solve many of
the problems of the students in respect to his thoughts, behavior career.

 Contribution of Schools in Molding Individual and Group Behavior

Schools are the platform for both teachers and students to interact and learn from
each other. schools have a moral obligation to educate their students on social
behavior. The fact that schools of nowadays have failed in this regard is the reason,
to a large extent, for the increasing rete of social misbehavior by students within
and outside the school environment today. While it is true that the primary purpose
of attending school is to get subject knowledge and learn life skills, however,
outside the school students should be able to solve their problems and also should
be educate enough to be productive for society. For example, how does one explain
a situation where a person who has passed through the four walls of a school
becomes an armed robber or beggar afterwards? Or an accounting student on
industrial attachment in an organization who fudges the account and manipulates
the ledger to steal funds? Yet these kinds of occurrences are frequent in our
society. They represent, on the one hand, the failure of their school teachers and
instructors in molding their character, and on the other hand, the lack of morality
and sympathy in the society in which they live, since the school is a mirror
reflection of the larger society.

The way in which schools shape the character of their students (or attempt to do
so) is through the academic curriculum. Syllabuses are often drawn to incorporate
subjects that teach moral values through set lessons or via general courses of study.
For example, Moral Instruction and Social Studies were elevated to full-fledged
subjects with the hope of molding the character and attitude of students in their
formative years. Apart from these lessons, schools should ensure that students
know from standard etiquettes such as greeting your parents, brushing your teeth,
taking your bath, helping with domestic work, observing good hygiene, eating
habits. That can be easily done with the help of teachers as they can include this
information and make them part of their lectures. Group behavior can also
strengthen by involving students in group projects, combine assignments and
sports etc. in this way students acknowledge each other and respect is mutually
formed.

The above stated arguments can help molding students’ individual and group
behavior and that can be very helpful to build a society of great individuals that can
also function in groups to make our country a better place.

Conclusion

Nowadays, however, education is centered on paper qualification with less


emphasis on teaching those subjects and courses that can positively lead to good
character formation. The merit for measuring the performance of students is the
number of subject distinctions and grades that they earn during examination. This
is a distorted idea of education and the role of the school. The real notion of
attending school and gaining education should be collective. Schools, as a matter
of fact, should give equal attention to these two aspects. After all, of what value is
the school if it does not transform the mind or mold the character of those who
have spent years in the classroom to acquire it. Schools should educate as well as
transform students to be a good human being.
