1.      Define Health, Wellness and Illness. (10 points)

 Health- it is the state of a complete physical, mental, and social well-being. It also sometimes
defined as a balance of physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual health and the
absence of a disease and having a sound body and a sound mind and wellness refers to the state of
having a healthy lifestyle and it keeps on harmonizing the different states of health which gives a
positive outlook about our lives. Health has many different definitions that includes both positive
and negative. Also, health itself is cannot be measured (Cruz, J.P., 2020).
 Wellness- is a constant course which entails to the recognition of the continuous cycle of life. It
is a vibrant unending process of change and experience and it is what makes our human
existence. Wellness also has components namely the physical, social, intellectual, emotional,
spiritual, financial, environmental, and occupational, that paves a vital role to chase for an
optimal health and that also makes us aware of the function beyond our capabilities (Cruz, J.P.,
2020).
 Illness- it is like a physical phenomenon and it is the response of a person to a disease. Illness is a
highly personal state in which the person’s physical, emotional, intellectual, social,
developmental, or physical functioning is thought to be diminished. It is also the individual’s
subjective feeling of being sick as only the person who is experiencing it or feeling it is the who
can say or claim that s/he is ill (Cruz, J.P., 2020).

2.      Enumerate and describe the Dimensions of Health. (10 points)

 Emotional Dimension- is defined as the ability to cope effectively in live or the way of
understanding your feelings. It is also known as the ability on how to manage stress, express
emotions and feelings as well as accepting and knowing ones limitation (Marjie L. et al, 2016).
 Spiritual Dimension-it is related to an individual’s values and beliefs that can help find the
meaning and purpose in life. It also includes ones morals and ethics. Having a strong spiritual
health can help a person to have clear values, sense of self confidence or self-esteem and the
feeling of having inner peace (Marjie L. et al, 2016).
 Intellectual Dimension- is the ability to recognize your own unique talents, ability to learn and
use information or ideas effectively for personal, family and career growth. It can also be known
as how and what you do to seek and accept new knowledge, skills, insights, wisdom and being
mindful. In this dimension you can engage yourself to some activities that may help to boost your
intellectual and critical thinking (Marjie L. et al, 2016).
 Physical Dimension- is the ability to carry out task and do activities that are under your interest
or ability as it can help reduce your risk from many illnesses. It is also a must to have enough and
restful sleep as well as nutritional foods (Marjie L. et al, 2016).
 Environmental Dimension-it is related to the surroundings that an individual occupy and it
connects the overall well-being to the health of the environment as social and natural
surroundings have a great impact to ones feelings. Also, it is great to be in positive surroundings
as it has an impact of calming effect (Marjie L. et al, 2016).
 Financial Dimension- it is the feeling of satisfaction about financial situation because finances
is the common stressor of many people. That’s why it is best to do budgeting and save some
money so as to lessen the stress that it can give when a situation occurs (Marjie L. et al, 2016).
 Occupational Dimension- it is the sense of satisfaction to a person’s choice of work and it
involves the ability to achieve balance from work and leisure. In this dimension, the goal of
having or being in work that makes you feel inspired and that you enjoy can reduce your worries
and stress (Marjie L. et al, 2016).
 Social Dimension- it is related to the sense of connectedness and belonging. It is also the ability
to successfully interact with people and within the environment. This also involves the
communication skills and the ability to fit and belong to a certain group (Marjie L. et al, 2016).

3.      Enumerate and describe the Models of Health. (10 points)

 Biomedical Model-  it treats the illness or injury itself, and believes that ill health can be cured,
because of the scientific knowledge needed to treat ill health, the doctor has more control of the
situation than the patient, which can cause conflict with giving patients informed choice.
Biomedical definitions of health could be accused of only caring for the medical problem of a
person, rather than the person as a whole and it describes the biomedical model as limiting, and
explaining that the social model includes all aspects of the person, including their social, cultural
and psychological background (Nursing Essay, 2020).
 Holistic Model- it focuses on the person as a whole, with their bio-physio-social issues being
taken into account to assess health, rather than just a physical illness or injury (Nursing Essay,
2020).
 Personal Behaviour Model (Health Model)- this health belief model assumes that people will
take action if they believe that they a health deterioration can be avoided, therefore making
themselves healthier by their own definition. It also works well in educating society in
preventable illnesses and diseases (Nursing Essay, 2020).
