Portfolio Artifact Description:
Dream Home - Using drawing tools to create a 2-dimensional layout
of a home.
What you learned:
The dream home project helps me think about what I really want in a house. I have been looking
to buy my first home this year and this project really helped me think more in debt. Drawing out
a house floor plan is simple for me since I have drawn out a few already. I took 3 days to plan
this floor plan out. I wanted to take my time on it. Since I may use it as my actual floor plan. I
love spacious living quarters. I love open concepts. I made the living and dinning without walls
because it would make a lovely place for gathering. Everyone mainly dwells in the living room
or kitchen, so I made this an open concept. I love to entertain so I added an additional fridge
and bar. I do not drink but this would most likely be an area to place food or have a
bartender/server for the night if it was a larger party. I wanted to add a pool area but unsure if
we were only focusing on the main house floor plan. I made this floor plan, planning out my life
along with it. My kids want a 2-story house but, I do not see myself past 60 going up and down
the stair’s multiple times a day. I made sure my kids have a full bathroom. They love to bath so I
gave them a fancy bathroom, along with a Jacuzzi and a large rainfall shower head. I
incorporated my whole family when I was making this floor plan. At the end I really love my
fancy open windows for natural lighting and large gathering areas.
ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for STUDENTS (NETS)•S Addressed:
Empowered Learner #1 1d: Students understand the fundamental concepts of technology
operations, demonstrate the ability to choose, use and troubleshoot current technologies and are
able to transfer their knowledge to explore emerging technologies.
Standard #3 3c: Students curate information from digital resources using a variety of tools and
methods to create a collection of artifacts that demonstrate meaningful connections or
conclusions.
Innovative Design #4 4b: Students select and use digital tools to plan and manage a design
process that considers design constrains and calculated risks.
Application of Skills Learned for the Future:
Imagine If we did not have technology to easily delete, add, repopulate, redo, copy, paste, etc.…
Sorry, I cannot imagine that. I would waste so many sheets of paper. I would waste more than
few months to get this one floor plan completed. If I were to remove something I did not want or
like, I need to erase, or redo the floor plan by copying what I have done and including my
changes. I appreciate technology! I love technology! My future students will never know the
struggle of a simple plan on a sheet of paper as I knew when I was in grade school.
This project allows students to learn to use tools on their software. Students will need to use
measurements and apply angles in their project. This project teaches the students how to use
lines and form lines. If this was a group project, students will have many opinions where things
should be and how large an area should be. This project will not only open their imagination but
also teaches students collaboration and communication skills and social skills. There are
endless simple ideas I can have my students do in class that will nourish their minds. A simple
project could be a simple barn for farm animals. Students would be a farmer for the day and
plan out a floor plan for the barn to see what the most functional way would be to feed and tend
to their animals. Young students can start from a simple animal farm barn floor plan to
graduating into making an electronic circuit plan.
