Early Life
• Christian Louboutin was born in France 1963.
• He had little interest in school growing up.
• Christian Louboutin’s father was a cabinetmaker whilst his mother was always at home.
• In his early teens, he had a dream to make footwear and designed types of shoes. He was expelled from
schools at 16. And started working for a famed shoe designer called Charles Jourdan.
• Louboutin happened on his life's passion by accident. All it took was a trip to a museum. He saw a sign
showing that high heel shoes were not permitted there. "I was totally fascinated by that sign. I'd never seen
shoes like that," he explained to W. Before long Louboutin was filling notebooks with his own shoe
sketches. He was further inspired by a book of Roger Vivier's designs given to him by a friend. Vivier
designed shoes for Christian Dior in the 1950s.
• In the early 1990’s he launched his own fashion line. In 1993 he added his famous red sole.

Christian Louboutin’s work
Christian Louboutin’s ‘red sole’ high heels are one of his
most famous pieces of work. He got the idea of red from his
assistant in his shop painting her nails red.
