Planetary Timing Mechanisms: The Days of The Week

This document outlines different systems for tracking planetary hours: 1. A fixed system that divides each day into 7 planetary hours ruled by the day's planetary ruler. 2. A flexible system that divides each sunrise-to-sunrise day into 12 daylight hours and 12 nighttime hours ruled by the planets in order. 3. Each planetary hour is further divided into periods ruled by the classical elements - Earth, Water, Air, Fire, and Ether/Quintessence. The document provides charts illustrating the fixed and flexible hourly systems and elemental divisions to allow timing activities based on planetary and elemental energies.

• This is a fixed system of timing, meaning that it stays this way (not my favorite of the bunch- but it is MUCH
easier to work with than flexible systems... but is it accurate. Carry this around with you and check it out from
time to time.
• The Sun is said to rise everyday between 3:26 and 6:52 am. This is the 2nd Planetary hour of the day, and is
thus ruled by the particular day it is- seen in bold.
• This is the table that will be used in order to calculate the Salt level of the Three Principle Constitution.

A Note on Flexible Systems

• To me, flexible systems are the most accurate, for they look at the actual flux of nature, which is never a fixed
phenomenon. Also, here in the NW in the winter, the sun never rises before 6:52 am in the middle of winter!!
• A few methods can be used:
1. The entire day (sunrise to next sunrise) is split into 24 hours, the first of which is the planetary ruler of
the day. Moving in the same order as the chart above: Mars-Sun-Venus-Mercury-Moon-Saturn-Jupiter.
2. The day is divided in half, with 12 planetary “hours” in the daylight times, and 12 hours in the night. This
makes the hours longer in the night than day in the winter, and the hours longer in the day during the
summer. In this way, there are 2 planetary hours for that day, one in the night, the other in the day.
3. I’ve never read about it, but I’m sure the sunrise could be calculated specifically, and divide the day into 7
planetary hours- like a flexible version of the fixed one above.

Elemental Divisions of Time
• Make sure to do proper mathematics in order to calculate the length of the daytime and nighttime
hours. Also make sure the Planets progress in the proper order: Saturn-Jupiter-Mars-Sun-Venus-
Mercury-Moon. They just repeat from there. Divide each hour into 4 to fill in the Elemental aspects.
