Finding Out How Your Brain Learns

Knowing how you learn is beneficial to know how your brain works and how to help

yourself learn more and improve. While taking the two assessments, I had trouble answering

some questions because for me, some of the questions could have different situations where my

answer would be different than what I put. I was torn between some of the answers so I chose the

answer that would be the most general. After I was done taking the assessments I agreed with the

majority of the information given. Finding out the best way for you to learn is crucial

information to succeed and improve yourself further in the future.

When becoming a teacher, learning about the best way for you to learn can help you

understand how each student learns in your classroom. You can also use this information in your

classes in college when becoming a teacher because you know the best way for you to learn,

apply, and improve the information you have learned. You can also help your students figure out

how they learn in the classroom. You could have them take these tests or figure it out as the year

goes on. One of my teachers last year had us take one of these tests on one of the first weeks of

school because she wanted to know how people learned and how she can help everyone learn her

material in the most beneficial way. After taking the “Find Your Strengths” assessment my top

intelligence was social. When answering these questions, I was torn because it really did depend

on the situation at hand but when I thought more about it, being a teacher is really all about being

social with your students and coworkers. That is one quality I will take with me when going into

a classroom. When learning about your students, knowing how they learn is an aspect of

teaching that every teacher should consider.

Teachers learn more about their students every day including the best way each one of

them learns. When you enter a classroom as a first year teacher you haven’t experienced each

type of learning alone and head on. Knowing how you learn could benefit figuring about your

students learning styles which would benefit you and them. When you know how each student

can learn, you as a teacher can improve how you teach by offering different ways to do an

assignment such as; different ways of taking notes, different types of ways to show an

understanding, or different ways of improving one’s grade on a subject that they didn’t

completely understand. When becoming a teacher, you don’t know how each kid learns until

later in the year or if they take one of the learning style tests. On the assessment of finding your

strengths my top three were; social (interpersonal), self (intrapersonal), and nature (naturalist).

Taking the social strength into the classroom will be beneficial to my students because I will be

able to communicate with them well and take into consideration new ideas of doing an

assignment. Bringing my intrapersonal, or self, strength into the classroom will affect my

students in a positive way because I will be able to hold myself accountable to make their school

year enjoyable and I will be able to reflect on a way of teaching something so that all my

students understand. Taking my natural strength into the classroom will be beneficial to my

students because I will be able to learn more about the world around me and teach more about

the natural world. Being a teacher is about learning from your students every day and I think my

strengths will help me do that.

Addressing each student with a different learning styles and multiple intelligences is

going to be one of the hardest tasks of being a teacher. When you are a teacher you have to adapt

each year because your job changes. You get new kids every year so you need to get to know

different kids and different learning styles each year. When you address it in your classroom, you

need to take into consideration that all kids learn differently even if two kids have the same

intelligence, they could learn through that intelligence differently. I will address it like one of my

teachers did last year, give different ways of doing one assignment so that every student can

show how they have learned something in the most beneficial way. This idea also gives you a

wide variety of projects to grade so that they all aren’t the same. You can also get your students

learning while on the move through activities outside or brain breaks throughout the day. In 8th

grade my class took a trip to a river to do water testing and I learned a lot through getting my

hands dirty and learning about the environment while being there physically. Teaching different

types of learners can also benefit you as a teacher to step out of your comfort zone to try a

different type of project or assignment.

In the future I do think that I will have my students take these tests because if they know

how their brain learns then that can benefit them in my classroom and if I know how each of my

students learn, then I can help them learn the material and better themselves. I also think that

when taking this test you find out a lot about yourself which is always a good skill to have.

Learning more about yourself and applying that to your learning, can benefit how much you can

improve your brain power.

Finding out the best way for you to learn is crucial information to succeed and better

yourself further in the future. After learning more about myself through these assessments, I have

come to realize how I learn best and how I can use that in the future. Before taking the

assessments I had a pretty good idea of how I learn but now I know the most efficient way for

my brain to compromise a big idea with little details so that I can use that information in the

future when studying for a big test or doing a big project.
