Duraid Project Proposal

This project proposal describes implementing a single pane of glass network dashboard to monitor Bahrain Petroleum Company's (BAPCO) network infrastructure across two locations. The objectives are to connect networking devices to a monitoring tool to display network maps, alerts, and reports. This will help administrators identify issues, make decisions quickly, and enhance collaboration between IT teams. The project will integrate an existing monitoring server with a remote server to provide visibility across BAPCO's network.

Networking Programming Database Management of Information Systems

INTRODUCTION

Bapco is a company that is specialized in oil industry in which it is line of business is in refining, supplying of
petroleum products and gas field. “ITD infrastructure” is a department that combines networking and IT
infrastructure teams. They provide several services that are related to networks and network devices that
run with different processing capabilities to support their business by providing services using workstations,
servers, printers, and storage devices, etc.

During the implementation of this project, the “ITD team” will be constructing and connecting the Bapco’s
networking devices to a unified network dashboard. Therefore, this will solve the disorganization of having
multiple monitoring tools for multiple departments. The solution will integrate the network devices from
two locations that are Awali and Refinery to connect to monitoring tool to display network segments,
maps, alerts and reports.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Summary:

Having a comprehensive resourceful network dashboard deliver more visualization in terms of data and
reports that are related to the Bapco’s network. In addition, network administrator have the ability to make
decisions on alerts that are occurring on the Bapco’s network.

Objectives:

Build and connect network devices of different infrastructure locations that are Awali and Refinery.

The system should provide:

1. Monitor mail server availability, performance and delivery.

2. Managing and solving any network faults by viewing the alerts and e-mail notification.
3. Checking the availability by ensuring all devices and servers are healthy and running.

4. Integrate Awali PRTG Core Server with Refinery PRTG remote server.
5. Providing a live data and historic data showing the traffic in, traffic out and total traffic of network
devices.
Benefits:

1. Help the network administrator to identify the network faults immediately and solve the network
issues.
2. Provide on-demand visibility and insight to the core IT infrastructure devices and servers.
3. Help make decisions and take actions quickly by solving the alarms that are logged in the monitoring
tool.
4. Monitor the overall network performance and evaluate the progress.
5. Enhance Collaboration between IT teams in sharing reports of the network.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Technical requirements:

1. Calculate the infrastructure network bandwidth by utilizing SNMP sensor.

2. Configure network connectivity using ICMP sensor.
3. Monitor servers (physical or virtual) and network devices (switches and firewalls) health
displaying their status whether running or shutdown.
4. Monitor SMTP downtime and response time to identify any failure in mail server.
5. Send alerts about the uptimes, downtimes, and slow responding servers, switches, firewalls, and
disks in milliseconds.
6. The function of sharing data and reports to enhance collaboration between Infrastructure
teams.
