Degrees and grades

Degrees

Bachelor
Bachelor`s degree is a lower level degree obtained by :

 Completed 3-year vocational education (180 credits) which is in


accordance with national curriculums.
 Completed 3-year integrated education (180 credits) in accordance with
programme descriptions approved by Sámi University College. It is
required that the candidate has completed an assignment of  aminimum of
10 credits. The program can be either comprehensive 3-year education
(180 credits) or 2-year education (120 credits) and in addition subjects of
60 credits.
 Completed 3-year education (180 credits). A specialization of at least 90
credits in one discipline and at least 30 credits in another discipline is
required. It is required that the candidate conducts an
independent assignment of a minimum of 10 credits.

Master
Master`s degree is a higher level degree, with a normal duration of two years after
the bachelor 's degree, a total of five years of higher education. Admission
requirements to master`s degree programmes are normally bachelor's degree or
equivalent education in a discipline relevant to the master 's degree.

Credit system
Courses are measured in credits, concidered equivalent to the European Credit
Transfer System standard (ECTS credits).
The academic year normally runs from mid-August to mid-June and last for 10
months. The full-time workload for one academic year is 1500-1800 hours of
study/60 credits.

Grades
The Norwegian grading system consists of two grading scales: one scale with the
grades pass or fail and one graded scale from A to E for pass and F for fail. The
graded scale has the following qualitative descriptions:

 A – Excellent: An excellent performance. The candidate demonstrates


excellent judgement and a very high degree of indepent thinking.
 B – Very good: A very good performance. The candidate demonstrates a
sound judgement and a high deree of indepent thinking.
 C – Good: A good performance in most areas. The candidate
demonstrates a reasonable degree of judgement and independant thinking
in the most important areas.
 D – Satisfactory: A satisfactory performance, but with significant
shortcomings. The candidate demonstrates a limited degree of judgement
and independant thinking.
 E – Sufficient: A performance that meets the minimum criteria, but no
more. The candidate demonstrates a very limited degree of judgement and
independant thinking.
 F – Fail. A performance that does not meet the minimum academic
criteria. The candidate demonstrates an absence of both judgement and
independant thinking.

The scale is used absolutely (criterion referenced assessment).
