Situations - English B2 Oral 2015
1. Your English friend is expecting some guests for the weekend. He is asking you what to
cook for them. Advise him to take the guests to a restaurant, tell him why you think it is
better not to cook at home, inform him about the prices, recommend a good retaurant to him
and tell him where it is.
2. Your English friend would like to move to Hungary and settle down here. She is asking you
where you think could be a nice place to live. Recommend a place giving reasons.
3. You are giving a birthday party to your friends at the weekend. Invite your English friend,
tell her who else is coming, what time it will begin, what she can do at the party.
4. You are in a shop in Britain and you want to buy a pullover for yourself. Tell the shop
assistant what you want, ask her where the changing rooms are, tell her why it is not good,
ask for another one, ask about the price and buy it.
5. You are in Britain and you need to go to the doctor's. Tell her what the matter is mentioning
at least two symptoms and how long you have had them.
6. Your English friend is staying at your house. You want to go out tonight but you don't
exactly know where. Suggest going to a disco, then further alternative ways of
entertainment.
7. You have invited your English friend to a restauant. He would like to eat something
typically Hungarian. Recommend something, tell him what some Hungarian dishes are like
and help her to choose to his taste.
8. You would like to travel from London to Cambridge. Now you are talking to the booking
clerk at the railway station. Tell him where you would like to go and what kind of ticket you
want. Ask him when exactly the train leaves, which platform from, if you have to change
anywhere and the time of arrival.
9. You are expecting a guest to arrive at three tomorrow but you cannot meet her at the station.
Ask your friend to help you out. Tell her when the guest will arrive, why you can't meet her
what she looks like and what clothes she will be wearing.
10. You are in London for a month and are just calling a language school to find a good English
language course for yourself. You want to know the number of lessons, duration, time, level,
price, the number of students on the same course.
11. A family is looking for a young private teacher who could help their son with their English
homework. Discuss with one of the parents the following: when you could teach him, for
how long, how much money you want. Ask the mother about his behaviour, level of English,
hobbies etc.
12. You are at a job interview. You would like to work as a tour guide this summer. You are
talking to the interviewer. Give some information about your education, languages you
speak, work experience, personal qualities. Ask about the pay and working hours.
13. You would like to ask your friend to go shopping with you to the new shopping centre. Your
friend prefers small shops and dislikes crowd and big shopping centres.
Your task:

one. Ask the shop assistant for advice. Tell her what is important for you about a mobile
phone (easy to use, screen, size, weight, memory capacity, easy to write short messages, able
to connect to the Internet, able to take photos, price).
