1. Critique the following: Mission and Vision of Deped.

Deped Mission

To protect and promote the right of every Filipino to quality, equitable, culture-based, and complete basic
education where:

Students learn in a child-friendly, gender-sensitive, safe, and motivating environment.

Teachers facilitate learning and constantly nurture every learner. Administrators and staff, as stewards
of the institution, ensure an enabling and supportive environment for effective learning to happen.
Family, community, and other stakeholders are actively engaged and share responsibility for
developing life-long learners.

Reflection:

Department, agencies and organizations have their own mission and vision, it serve as guide in their
operations. Deped mission shows that they are protecting and promoting the right of every Filipino, that
everyone has a right to a quality, equitable, culture-based education. As we can see Deped has a lot of
programs offered to address the needs and welfare of the students. It is also discussed in its mission the
ideal setup for quality education for quality education. The environment from where the learning happens
must be conducive, child-friendly, gender-sensitive and safe for the learners. Teachers should facilitate
learning and nurture every children. Not only the teachers should nurture and care for children also the
administrator and staffs are included.
Deped Vision

We dream of Filipinos
who passionately love their country
and whose values and competencies
enable them to realize their full potential
and contribute meaningfully to building the nation.

As a learner-centered public institution,

the Department of Education
continuously improves itself
to better serve its stakeholders.

Reflection:

The first part of Deped Vission emphasize that the department of Education dreaming for a students to
love their country or “Makabayan” The students who is skilled enough to contribute to country’s
progresss. Mission see to it that every learner must have accees to quality, equitable,culture-based, and
complete basic education. It is also discussed in its mission the ideal quality education. The teacher
facilitate and constantly nurture every learner. We teachers dream to have students who are holistically
developed and ready for life.

The second part paragraph of Deped mission shows that it is a learner-centered institutions and
continuously improving. It requires an active participation and engagement of the students while
delivering the lessons. As an institution they continuously improving their service through different
programs, and curriculum innovation for the benefit of the children.

What philosophy of Education manifested there?

After such reading and analyzing the Deped Mission and vison I found out that the philosophy of
Education manifested here is a Student-Centered philosophies. The Constructivism theory, why?
Because I believed the essence of education includes growth. The purpose of Education is not just fill our
give it a way, Once you learn something in life, you should able to absorb it in a way to use it in your life.
And then in turn pass it on someone else in order to contribute to their growth as well.
Deped Mission and Vision as well as Core values focuses on the welfare of the learners, Deped wants to
have a quality Education to every Filipino through a constructivism theory, They continue to create
innovation on how to improve their agencies but still it focus the learners.

3. Critique the year level curriculum you are teaching.

Currently I am teaching Araling Panlipunan 9. It is an Economic subject. Social Studies are the
curriculum vehicle of the K-12 basic Education Reform to promote active citizenship and social
transformation. The new Social Studies curriculum of the K-12 basic Reform tries to respond in
integrating gender-principles and concepts in teaching and learning process by providing curriculum
content that recognizes women’s significance in the society as product of historical and cultural process.
The school serves an agent of social transformation by creating curricula that provide learning
experiences that will harness social criticism and action towards contemporary issues in the country.

Teaching Araling panlipunan 9 (Ekonomiks) is easy but challenging, easy because it’s more on practical
application in our daily lives but challenging because the curriculum was broad. We are using module in
our discussions and activities. In this curriculum I was applying constructivism theory, as I was said
Ekonomiks 9 is more practical application on daily lives I allow my students to discover the topic and
share their ideas and experiences related to the topic. Honestly I enjoyed teaching Economics compare to
History because in Araling Panlipunan 7 and 8 it’s more on History and I found out that the students
quietly bored in this kind of subjects and as a teacher you are required to do some strategies to get the
attention of the students.

In my two years of teaching Economics 9 I found out that some of the indicated topic in the books and
module are almost the same somehow it takes mastery due to repetition but time consuming instead of
proceeding to other topic. In our curriculum in one topic have a different task to do sometimes the
learners got tired or I mean get bored in doing the task because sometimes they ask it’s almost the same to
their previous work. And as a teacher you are to do some interventions and other related activities.

Araling Panlipunan 9 has Strong and Weak points. Base on my analysis the strong points of this
curriculum is Easy to teach, students can relate it to their personal lives and experiences, not boring
because it has a lot of activities to do, While the weak points are broad topic, requires the teachers to do
more reading and research, Redundant topic that makes student bored to do the tasks and issued module
for students is summarized some information and topics are not explained well.
As an Araling Panlipunan teacher and if I give me chance to improve the curriculum I will suggest that
this Araling Panlipunan 9 curriculum compressed some related topics to avoid redundant. Elaborate the
topic instead of summarizing it because not all the area can access interenet connections to do some
research, and not all have an available resources to do so.
