SET AND SETS OPERATIONS

Rationale Close family ties is one of the most valuable characteristic of a
Filipino citizen. We Filipinos are very much attached to everyone
we love the most. We engage ourselves in many groups---family
members, co-workers, circle of friend etc. In some groups that we
are to built are sometimes mathematical in a way that we can
distinguish the kind of set or group we will have.

CONTENT UNDERSTANDING
Content Standards The learner demonsrate the key concept of Sets.

Performance The learner will be able to understand the key concept of Sets.
Standards
 Describe and illustrate well-defined sets, subsets, null set
that can promote a good relationship with others.
 Determine wether the set is finite or infinite.
 Write a set in a roster and in set builder notation.
 List the subset of a set.

Focus  Critical thinking

 Problem Solving
 Logical thinking

Key Concept Sets, Subsets, Equal Sets, Null Sets

Essential Questions  What is the importance of sets?

 When can you tell that a set is finite or infinite?
 How can you determine that a set is in a roster form or it is
inn a set-biulder form?

STRATEGIES FOR INQUIRY

Inquiry Stimulus Segregating garbages is one of the projects of the Clean and Green
in every barangay of a municipality, the citizens of each barangay
must know how do they segregate their garbages according to its
kind. They discover that they need to learn to classify their
garbages in a set or with their similarities and differences.

Inquiry Questions  How do they segregate their garbages?

 On what set does the plastic bottles belong?
 On what set does the left over food belong?
 How do you integrate sets in segregating garbages?
 What could be the possible effect if we do not segragate our
garbages?

DAY 1: SETS AND SET NOTATION

I. Routine Activities
A. Opening Prayer
B. Cleanliness and orderliness
C. Checking of attendance
II. Preparatory Activities
A. Group the students into 4 groups.
B. Present the game “WORD FACTORY”
III. Discussion
A. Intrduction to Sets and Set Notation
B. Definition of important terms.
SETS
- Finite set
- Infinite set
SET NOTATION
- ROSTER SET FORM
- SET-BUILDER FORM

C. Drill
The students will group into four. There will be two
bottles in front with a thing inside. Every correct
answer they’ll make within the time limit given, they
have the right to get the thing out from the bottle.
Whoever has the most numbered things got out of
the set will be the group to be recognized as the
winner. GET READY!!
I. Finite or Infinite
II. Write each set below in ROSTER FORM
III. Write each set below in SET-BUILDDER FORM

D. Investigation
 Make the best set for yourself. And share it
to the class.

IV. Closing Activities

A. Closing prayer

METACOGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT AND ASSEESSMENT

Assessment tools  Written work (WW)
 Performance task(PeTa)
 Quarterly Assessment(QA)

Metacognitive When the introduction is done, ask these reflection questions:

Extension  Where can sets be seen in our daily routines?
 In what way can we integrate sets in defferent subjects in
school?
 How can we apply the concept of sets in our daily activities?

Applications
Sets can be seen and used in different areas such as in classifying
garbage for the clean and green project. We can also used sets in
our daily lifes through the essence of belongingness and
cooperation in a group we have and every task we do.
