Teaching Philosophy

As a disabled, queer, female I know what it feels like to struggle in school and in life. I

have been in the same spot as most of my students so I feel like I have a deeper understanding of

what my students might be experiencing than other teachers. I believe that all students have a

right to learn. As a teacher I am there to support my students and cater to their individual needs.

All information will be accessible regardless of language, ability, education, or any other

possible barrier. My ideal classroom helps foster students' interests and help them grow mentally,

socially, emotionally, and physically. The classroom is full of diversity and inclusion. I want to

make sure all my students always feel like they belong. My classroom will be a safe space for

everyone.

One goal I have as a teacher is to show my students that adults and teachers are also still

learning. It’s a never ending process. I feel like many students and kids look at adults like they

have everything figured out and they know it all. I want to break down that assumption and show

my students that learning is a never ending process. Another goal I have as a teacher is to

collaborate with my students in regards to their learning. I want their input on what type of

assignments they enjoy and how they best learn. I will also provide multiple options that cater to

different learning styles. The third goal I have for myself and my classroom is to get honest

feedback from my students. I want to check in with them regularly throughout the year and see

what is working and what I can improve on.
