Rules 2

The document discusses strategies for effective classroom management. It emphasizes keeping student consequences private to avoid embarrassment. Consequences should be proportional to offenses, ranging from warnings for minor issues to referrals for chronic problems. Positive reinforcement techniques like praise and incentive systems are recommended to maximize learning time. Setting clear rules and consequences can motivate students to behave properly and increase their focus in class.

One of my main priorities when it comes to consequences and redirecting is to keep

interactions with the student in question, private. It is embarrassing and can affect the student's

self-image. These consequences can vary, starting with a private warning or private meeting for

small offenses such as speaking out of turn; loss of privileges, parent call, detention for second

level offenses like disrespect of teacher and reoccurring discipline issues; to being sent to the

office or referral for chronic problem students. To maximize classroom learning, Fred Jones

suggests the use of positive classroom discipline strategies. Examples of these would be effective

body language, incentive systems, and positive instructional support (1987). Using body

language is a good tool to stop misbehavior, quietly, respectfully, and time effective. The

incentive system is set to motivate the student to maintain proper behavior in the classroom.

These strategies should increase learning time for the students thus giving me more time to work

with them and then the students are further motivated to work hard and leaves little chance of

them breaking any classroom guidelines.
