M1- Pre-Task
1. Is sacrificing one life to save the lives of many the best possible ethical outcome? Why or why
not? (Answer in one sentence only)
- Yes, because the people around me would think I’m crazy if I would pick the life of one instead
of lives of many.
2. Based on the video itself, what is the "means" (or tool) in arriving what "end" (or outcome)?
(Answer in one sentence only)
- The means in the video is how the person does an act that is either bad or good to achieve the
end or the outcome.
3. Does the video show "the means justify the end" or "the end justifies the means"? Provide an
explanation in two to three sentences only.
- The end justifies the means because if there is a good outcome it can nullify the wrong doing in
the process of attaining the end. The person did save the five people but at what cost? It cost
one life but the people nullify the process of achieving the end because the outcome is good.
M1- Post-Task
1. How do moral standards differ from other rules in our lives? (Answer in one sentence only)
- Moral standards differ depending on how a person believes that it is morally right or wrong.
2. Using the principles of logical reasoning and critical thinking, explain your stand on the following
ethical issue: Same sex marriage in the Philippines. (Answer in minimum of 50 words to 100
words as maximum).
- Same sex marriage is still considered ethically wrong for the reason being that it is still
considered taboo in the Philippines. I think that the LGBT community is not really after the
acceptance of the same sex marriage to the society but the conjugal rights that comes along
with it. I do believe that they have the rights to have their marriage for it signifies that in the
eyes of the law they are legally wedded and viewed as a normal couple.
3. ARTICLE READING: Click "articles" and it will bring you to a website "Ethics Sage” where you can
find articles written focusing on ethics. Choose just one article, read it attentively and carefully,
and then write you’re most important learning. Do not forget to indicate the title of the article
that you have read.
- The topic that I chose is “What Should Ethics Look like during the Pandemic??” The most
important thing I got from reading this topic is that even though we have the right to do it
doesn’t necessarily means that it is always the right thing to do. Just like what I have been
seeing in the US that some people whom being referred to as “karens” would not wear a mask
and would argue about having the rights to do that and it is not illegal but the problem is that
the establishments cannot let them in because it is their policy to ensure the health of the other
customers.
